Vn V8 power steering pump failure??
Hi All

I have just built a 355 vn commodore , now a quick bit of background lol
I pulled the car apart 2 and a half years ago for the build and finally got it back on the road last week to find that i have absoloutly no power steering
Now the power steering worked perfectly before the build and the only thing i have had removed from the vehicle power steering wise is the pump (which has been sitting dry for that time frame). I loosened the high pressure line on the rack and there is little to no fluid pressure from the pump, also there is hardly any fluid flowing through the return line to the pump.
Now the main questions presuming the pump has failed is = does anyone know why a pump would fail after it has just been sitting for a long period of time ? I am thinking there maybe some internal seals (that are required for pressure ) that may have dried up overtime and blown out ??
Any ideas or information on the internals of these pumps would be greatly appreciated
Thanks ALL

Don't suppose there is a mud wasps nest half way up the hoses or fittings?
I wouldn't know the difference from a spark plug to a glow plug.
But now, after owning a Hilux 4x4 for around 10 years... I'm a fully qualified : injector pump technician,Radiator repairman, Tyre fitter, Chassis welder, Panel beater, Upholsterer, Painter, Transmission builder..auto and manual !, but not only that... I'm also an Engine conversion man, EFI tuner, experienced auto electrician, Blacksmith, Tailshaft builder and a very good diff man. Who said a Hilux is a useless POS.

After re-fitting the pump did you bleed the system of air?
there really isn't much to a power steering pump, The little vanes could be sticking inside the pump.
This one looks fairly close http://www.google.co.nz/url?sa=t&rct...kY3qB9fsh2iQJALast edited by immortality; 25-08-2012 at 07:51 PM.

Hey guys :-)
Finally fixed it lol . I removed the pump and removed the outlet high pressure fitting from the rear , behind this is the pressure regulating valve assembly. It was instantly obvious from the corrosion that the valve was stuck> I freed it up with some hammering lol and removed / cleaned and reassembled and voila shes FIXED
As for the corrosion the only thing i can think of is moisture in the atmosphere when the pump has been sitting in the shed for a long period has caused the corrosion .
