Default Aussie 4 speed into vh, clutch cable problems

    Gday all,

I have fitted a 308 and 4 spd into my vh commodore, Now i searched high and low for a clutch cable to fit it and apparently they dont make them anymore. So i went and bought a 2nd hand one off the wrecker. Anyway I fitted it up today and i just cant get the thing to engage the clutch! i have adjusted it all the way out and still nothing. Its like the cable is stretched or i am missing a piece? does anyone have a photo of how it should look fitted to the gearbox. Or had the same trouble? its driving me insane lol.

    thanks

You need a V8 pedal set.

yeah i have heard this. I am guessing the pedal set i have must be 6 cyl. i just bought it off the wrecker. i also heard i can still use it it will just sit out further than the brake pedal where in my case it wont work at all. is there meant to be a spring to pull the throwout fork back to keep the cable taught?

I know the throwout fork and bearing came out of a t5 in a vn commodore.. could that have something to do with it or are they the same?

    sorry...
T5 stuff is wrong for what you have

to get this to work in a VB-VK Commodore
you MUST get a proper V8 clutch pedal (Dellow or CRS do swapovers for 6cyl ones)
..the pull ratio and movement is different and the throwout lever wont go the right distance without it

a 2ndhand V8 clutch cable will be ok (but can get them made up from...whats their name)

you MUST adjust the bellhousing throwout lever ball to the correct height FIRST

you MUST adjust the cable by getting the lever in place with no bearing freeplay
and then you adjust the pedal height (see the factory manual for this)

I suspect you have the 'long' clutch cable that was NOT used on VH and VK (only HZ WB VB and Vc)
    you need the short version
they are sold on ebay and there is a guy on Melbourne making them (he makes all sorts of cables)

Ive had the long and short versions of this cable and both worked for me. I like the long one better as its easier to clear the headers. One touch on the headers destroys the inner lining. I have had trouble with not enough adjustment before, bit fixed it with extra spacers between the firewall and the cable casing.
