Thermo Fan Wiring
Hey,
I put some AU's in my VR SS the other day and it came with a craig davies temp switch also.
Is there a way to run it via the ecu, that way i dont have to run the copper thermostat into the rad hoses?
If anyone knows it would be great. I need to know if it can be done and if so where do i hook it up to.
Cheers

There is a provision for thermo fans in the factory delco computer, you can hook it up to there and just get the temp switching settings lowered to somewhere useful as they're set stupidly high as they didn't come with thermo's. There was a very detailed thread on it on Street commodores forum years ago, not sure if it's still there as I was banned a couple years back now lol. Jason Gray was doing it in his VN SS

I got told this on that forum:
you can connect to the wiring that is used for the a/c fan and is temp controlled by the ecu
the parameter in the ecu needs to be lowered by a memcal reburn to drop the cut in temp to a more usable 90 deg instead of the factory 107 ish
there is a 2 pin plug beside the radiator that goes to it
use that wiring to run 2 relays - one for each fan motor and get a memcal done to trigger it
Is that what ur talkin about?

Basically yes. Not sure why they recommended to use the A/C fan output instead of the normal fan output, perhaps it saves adding in extra wiring that isn't already there?

You just want it to copy the V6. You'll need some Memcal mods to adjust settings as mentioned above.

There is provision for thermo fan output and the air con one. The computers are the same in V6 and V8 with different programming of course. The V6 runs a thermo fan so hence the V8 has provision to run thermo fans too.

Where abouts is the provision I rather run it to that if that's the case.

In the computer data.
As far as the wiring goes, V6 ones have a plug at the very front just to the driver's side of the radiator and the wires run back to a relay in the box immediately behind the battery. I don't know if the V8 has this wiring or not, and there could be a couple of other plugs/wires here used or unused.

You will have to get the Memcal reprogrammed to get the on/off setting changed for the thermo. I fitted a big thermo to my old VP SS. When i fitted it, i just put it on a switch on the dash so i could switch it on and off when ever it needed it. But when i had the Kalmaker memcal done, i got them to change the setting so it would come on and off at the right temps. All the wiring and shit is there for it, it just needs to have the temps set thru the ECU
