Default clubby clutch woes...

whats crackin fellas, got a bit of a query regarding my vs clubby clutch...
I bought the car around 6 months ago to replace my 12 sec nissan 180sx - my demerit points were in need of some nurturing, and i was in need of some comfort. I resisted the urge to rip up in it, thinking "its a clubsport, its manual, of course she'll be able to do a skid so whats the point...."

after a bit of egging on one night i decided it was time to see what she could do - revved her up to 4.5 grand and stepped off the clutch, only to have no wheelspin and plenty of clutch smoke.. clutch was shagged and it took me 6 months to realise

silly me

now, in my nissan i had a daikin exedy heavy duty clutch and after a bit of lurking around here ive noticed that people are using them in commodores as well, but what kinda results are you getting, and where/how much are you picking them up for???

sorry for the long post fellas, just had to vent some frustration - a clubby that cant do a burnout... who woulda thought?

cheers adam

I'd reckon there are a couple of ways of approaching your prob....A heavy duty clutch with more clamping pressure than standard will take care of slippage but the trade off will be a lot more effort required on the pedal. Also if the Clubby has an IRS rear end then that'll be your next prob, axle tramp and broken bits.
Another option would be to have a larger diameter clutch custom made and have tha flywheel re-drilled while the gearbox is out. This will get you more clamping pressure than most normal diameter performance clutches and retain a light pedal feel....Clutch material is up to you, however harsher materials aren't really needed if you go for a larger diameter package...

cheers for the responses fellas... once the old tax return comes back i think i'll whack in a daikin - had no dramas with one in my nissan and that car had a shitload more power than the commodore...
tax better come in soon though since the clutch seems to be deteriorating even further

feels somewhat like the semi rooted clutch in my dads hilux, and that just wont do

finally and end to the drama... got myself an exedy heavy duty clutch and it has totally transformed the way the car drives..

from the day i bought it, the car was always a bitch to get moving in first with the clutch requiring major slippage to get the car going without shuddering, jerking and being an overall asshole - now shes as smooth as silk.

After being quoted $1300 for the HD clutch fitted by Auto Brake Service, a bit of shopping around brought me to Bayside Brake and Clutch in Frankston who fitted one for me for $792 inclusive of flywheel machining etc.. Top guys who were straight to the point and seem intent on offering good product/service at a realistic price.. so if anyone in s/e melbourne needs brakes or clutches i couldnt recommend them higher.

cheers fellas
