308 manifolds and carbies
Hi all just after a bit of info 308 manifolds I have a HZ GTS original 308 block with pre pollution heads and manifold installed, running a very tired 600 holley.
I am a bit of an original buff so would like to put pollution manifold back on I have been told this is possible together with a re-manufactured q-jet.
Any info would be appreciated including what to do with auto-choke maybe convert to manual ?
Cheers

It depends on how far you want to go. To make it all work and be original you'll need the later heads with exhaust crossover. If you just want the look of the manifold then you can bolt it on to heads without the crossover (but not vice versa), and you could even still run the early auto choke which has a small heat pipe running over the rocker cover down to the exhaust manifold. Bear in mind that you won't have any sort of manifold heater with this method - the early manifold is water heated while the later one uses the exhaust crossover.

Hi didn't really want to change heads at the moment pollution heads I have need a bit of work, also running headers (or very soon will be) so old style auto choke tube is a no go.
Do you know of any perrils of running a manifold with no carb heat I wouldn't have thought there wouldn't be any icing probs in the plenum area and looking at an after market manifold like an edelbrock there doesn't seem to be any heat jacket, also still looking for the old choke solution do you know of any conversions for q-jets? the Holley I am running at the moment has no choke and man its a dog when its cold.

You can still run the heat pipe with headers (I do), as long as it draws in hot air it will work. Without the heated manifold you may experience a bit more starting difficulty in winter but overall not a major, mine's not connected. I don't think many aftermarket manifolds have heaters either. You can still always go manual choke as you said, I like the auto on the Quadrajet but a lot of people take them off.
