I HATE WORK
|
Hey guys, i just bought an 355 crank with chev journals off ebay. The seller listed it as being in great condition but when it arrived and i looked at it it appears it has spun a bearing
(the journal is scored to sh*t) I have tried to contact the prick but he isn't responding so i guess i am stuck with it. What i need to know is the standard chev jounal sizes and how far you can grind them till they are rendered useless. it is an auscrank btw |

i know they make at least .020 bearings for Chevs. I think you can get .030
this is assuming you mean the big ends and have 2.1" Chev large journals if it's really bad, you could grind them .100 and use Chev small journal rods. only speculating, there. does anyone know if this is possible. are the bearings the same width

The only issue you'll get with grinding that far is you need to know how deep the oil hole in the journal is, some of the after market cranks do crack there due to having the hole too close to the surface. Just take the crank into the machine shop and ask them to grind in, they always look bad like magnified till you grind it, post up a pick so we can see what you talking about......it'd be easier to know what we're dealing with that way. Otherwise its just conjecture.

That looks fairly bad, you'll need a crack test as that sort of damage may have cracked the journal, take it to a good crank grinder (may be a hard thing to do in WA) get an opinion from them and get them to measure it then a crack test before you even try to grind it.
