needs a rebuild by the sound of it. Is the fluid full? What about on the other gear changes and when you go reverse to first?

So the problem is a slow change up from 2nd to 3rd ?
So third has no adjustment ?(why would you want to adjust it ??)
If 3rd has no adjustment , then what adjustment do 1st and 2nd have ?
Isnt the problem the change up , not the 3rd gear ?.
Try dropping the oil and filter and adjusting the band , make sure you use a INCH pound tension wrench ,Replace the oil with new clean oil , reolace the filter , make sure you fit the gasket the right way , and fit a 0-300 pressure gauge to the foward pack pressure port on the passenger side of the box and hose long enough so as you read it inside the car .

Damo, Do you know if this car is running a hi-stall converter at all?
Is the trans' oil running through the radiator. or a dedicated oil cooler?
Follow up what 400 said and see what happens.

And wots wrong with that ?? At least thats 40 HP more where It counts . as long as he is not tryiing to put over 500HP through the Trimatic(suitably strengthened of course) it will be fine.
