You can go electric fuel pump but a L34 machanical pump will do.

Not to be contrary but when I fitted one, carter black, to my VK, with double rubber insulated bracket, it was noisy. If I had the window open and the stereo up it was bearable. Furthermore it wines as the voltage varies ie when the electric fan or intermittent vipers come on etc. However I dont have 550hp engine/ exhaust noise either

it sounds like you didnt have it through a relay or wasnt wired properly. all mine and mates cars (10+) have never had any troubles with noise or voltage drop.

a return style reg will cut noise down too

Skitz

Your choice is pretty open for electric fuel pumps but also I always thought a good upgrade was increasing the size of the fuel line and the size of the pickup tube in the sender unit if your not already using a fuel cell or similiar size outlet eg. modified sump unit at the back of the fuel tank. Sometimes it's not just about the fuel pump but everything else in between as well.

The VK came with an electric (in tank) fuel pump standard, therefore I used the factory wiring and relay that cuts the pump if the car stalls. Also, there is a return line from the carby to the tank.

Question:

1. What type of regulator do you use on the alternator?
2. Has anyone fitted the regulator near the tank and not in the engine bay?

Cheers

VKs with electric in tank pump as standard?

V8 with hot fuel handling option only
...not all VK V8 Commodores got the helper pump
in the tank (and the helper pump was never a feature on 6s ) EFI 6s got a hi pressure setup

i fitted a carter to a vk not long ago and was quite satisfied with it, a heap quieter than a holley blue, smaller and will likely outperform it too.

Depends on what you want to do, and how long to want to do it for.

Land speed records will obviously require a much bigger pump than a street car with more power.

VK built July 85, only had in the tank pump and block off at engine. Later on I added the L34 pump as it would run out of fuel sometimes in first gear. Then the intank pump died and the L34 pump drove the car to 13.5 @ 103.5mph at WSID.

Cheers, Joe
