Default 327 slugs in a 308

20 years ago, my auto machinist in nz put me together a 308 with 327 pistons in it ( IIRC )

his reasoning was that they were more readily available and had a flat top which would increase my compression

now, did i remember this correctly, or have i got beerheimers ?

are they identical or near enough to make sweet f.a. difference

They sit to low in the block about 1mm down you have to machine the block or loose comp

when you stroke a 308 to 326+ cubes you use 350 pistons and 327 pistons for std stroke.
personaly i dont like the chev pistons in a holden as the valve releifs seem to cause weired turbulence and loose power as they dont line up with the holden valve placing and angle. just my theory i could be wrong. a proper holden flat or dished piston designed for a holden is a better choice. IMO

GTR whatever they are they're chev pistons(actually you ppl did the machining)my son is Mike that was at Auto 1 Malaga till we bought kalgoorlie.Anyway the pistons have the relief in them & now I've pulled it apart they're 1mm down the block.I'm now going to have the block machined to suit.Rebuild will be totaly different in some ways to original motor.

must have been before i started there as i wont recommend chev pistons in holden. with the valve reliefs and the piston sitting low in the bore it would have no more comp than std dish slugs, maybe even less.

You're right but it was a very budget motor,we paid $150 for the bottom end which had good parts & the whole motor when put together only cost around $800-$1000 & when last run pulled 12.8+ so I can't complain.
