Default HK-Commodore Brake conversion

I have converted my hk to vn rear discs/vn v8 fronts and am trying to work out the best booster master cylinder combination. I want to run a 1" master cylinder and was going to use a wb statesman unit as I think this will bolt straight onto the HK Booster. Has anyone tried this before? Is there a better option? As I'm in tassie and aftermarket parts can be a pain to get here so I was trying to mate factory components where possible.

sounds feasible to me. Either that or a P10331 from a VN V8.

Commodore ones wont bolt straight onto booster. Two bolts are level on HK but on an angle on commodore if that makes sense. Will the HK booster be ok for four wheel discs

im going to keep an eye on what goes on here - i've just ripped out the 202 from the HT i've got and will need to upgrade to discs for what i want to do, meaning boosters and discs the works

much work involved in getting the discs on the car? i havent even dropped a wheel off yet to see the hubs - too busy with other shrapnel so far

Just be careful with whats Metric and whats Imperial in line and hoses sizes , the WB stato booster and master cylinder are the way to go , but they use metric fittings same as the VN does
PS will the VN callipers fit inside 14" rims

I bought the kit from CRS. All fitted A1 but fiddley. Calipers and steering arms are tight against each other. Will make changing pads a bitch. HQ stubs bolt straight on if you are looking for an easier fix.

VN's came out with 14" rims on the poverty pack. I run 15's with v8 calipers and there aint much room. My hk was originally an unboosted drum front so I have to replace lines anyway.

if you had your time again would you do it all again?? im not looking for HQ discs - i kinda feel the commodore brakes are the minimum i'd run with

you talk about clearances, this doesnt foul on anything or is it just close for comfort?

sorry man, just trying to pick up as much info as i can

Do you have any pics you can share with us ahk68? I have been offered a wrecked VT clubsport with hsv premium brake package for a pretty good price. I was thinking of converting my HT to run these brakes. Havent looked at the car yet but i think the premo package was the 4 spot front calipers??? I still have to do some research, ring hoppers stoppers and crs to see if its possible tho...

I fitted commy discs for three reasons.1st vn disc brake rear end is a bolt up swap with only having to change suspension points. Didn't have to shorten it at all. 2nd As hk-g's look reasonable good with 8" rims and i'm trying to build this car on a budget, commodore 2nd hand mags are everywhere and cheap ( i run 15x 8 b45's that I picked up for $300) 3rd, I live in tassie and parts supply is crap here if you try to get exotic. I kept it as simple as possible. I personally wouldn't fit hq brakes over commodore ones but it is a cheaper option but you still need to address the rears or put up with two stud patterns. Will post pics over the weekend.

so im all new to mixing and matching the parts i'll be needing - tell me if im on the right track here

the brake master and booster - would this sucker pump anything i'd be wanting to put onto the hubs - whether its a girlock setup or a VN-VT discs setup? and basically be a direct bolt into position

ooo probably will be too big - but could it be any easier? lol full front and back discs/rotors the works

Buying the CRS kit is the best thing to do. From memory cost about $600 including stubs. You need drum brake stubs if you want to modify them yourself. The kit tells you what you need, basically just whatever discs and calipers you want to run. I still haven't worked the booster bit out yet. Painting engine bay first. but will post results. There's a pic of brakes in my gallery. I think vn discs are enough. I dont reckon they'll let me loose down conrod. lol

mmm conrod, thats coming up too best stock up the fridge and pantry with supplies

all the people i've talked to have agreed that i need the 1" master and the booster from a WB, but this is why i ask questions incase im off the track -- that CRS kit is nice and cheap, lookin on the hoppers stoppers website today and the kit for our car setup is in the $1500 - $1800's mark depending on your style of disc

hey ahk068 - i called hoppers stoppers today, they've quoted me 1300 for 300mm x 28mm slotted discs twin piston front end commodore stud pattern, comes with EVERYTHING required for the conversion - or same again but 1400 for the drilled and slotted rotors ... for a spanking new setup and new discs, not too bad, im thinking about this kit (only because im going to need the stopping power) and doubt much could go wrong

the other thing is i have been calling up about custom 9inch diffs - long story short they can supply them with commodore stubs but no brakes, thats for me to supply

so in combination with all that, i asked hoppers stoppers today which booster and master you use, he has assured me that the V8 version of the boosters/masters for the HT will be able to cope (maybe for piece of mind use the 1 inch upgrade??) but he said dont bother with WB etc etc..just ebay up a HKTG one and get it reco'd to work flawlessly

food for thought and has definitely tickled with my thoughts and got me keen --- sort all this garbo out and im one step closer to only having one thing left to do - the engine
