Default My Car Keeps Turning Off

Hi Guys I have a VR SS and every once in a while(everyday almost) it decides to turn off while I am driving I was wondering if any of you guys out there would know of this problem. The engine lights also comes on now and again but when I check the codes I doesn't register anything. I was told it could be some sensor with a name that I have forgotten that is on the right side of the engine bay next to a little silver box. If anyone has any clue what I am talking about please help me correct this problem please.

That little silver box is the ignition module and that sounds like the problem to me. It happened to me once exept mine never started again, yours could be just warning you. Cost a bit over $200 for me to do it myself, but i was lucky enough to have a test one to borrow to make sure that was the problem first.

It could be the ignition module or a bad connection/broken/shorted wire.

If you have a spare module try it; Be WARNED there have been instances where this has killed the next module.

There are series of tests described in HOLDEN SIP which need to be done.

Fault find before you get stuck into replacements etc.

Are there any DTCs (Defect Trouble Code - These can be read with the check engine light)?

Regards

Its the CDI.
its happened exactly as he said.
And after it gets hot.

Generally starts with a developing an intermittent miss.
then later, a week, a month,whenever... it dies. you open your bonnet, it cools down and then engine for no apparent reason starts and runs.

It could be a number of things in the ignition system. Cam/Crank sensor in the distributor. Even the coil. (They break down when they warm up). It could be a bad connection or broken wire.
Advice; do the tests or have the fault diagnosis done.
By the way if your Holden dealer won't explain the steps they will take....... go to someone who will.
Many people, including service centres needlessly swap out components. And you pay for it.

If it was a Vsux it could be what Boss said. As well as the CAS as they get hot over heat when stuffed you pour water on them and they run again. But looks like its a V8

My hz tonner with a VN EFI 5.0l did exactly the same thing, dies when its hot and then runs again when it cools down. It was the ignition module for me and thats more than likely going to be the case for you.

Does the EFI 5 litre have a coil pack like the V6s do? The problem you described is exactly the same symptomatically as i found in a V6 VR that i had my hands on a few years ago and it was a bung coil pack.

No, the v8 has a dizzy with a coil & a separate ignition module.
