Default Offset ground cranks

I know people make 330 strokers with say 3.25" stroke and 6" rods - can you use a 6.125" rod in a Holden using a different stroke?

Can you change the rod journal size on a Holden crank to 2" or 2.1"?

Also, for such strokers, are SBC pistons for a 327 normally used? How can I calculate whether a piston will suit a particular combo? Surely it's not just trial and error (or knowing what has worked before)?

Thanks blokes. Getting the run around on that short motor I was buying so in the meantime looking at possible builds.

Half the stroke + rod length + piston crown height

3.48”(355 stroke)/2 + 5.625” (holden rod length)+ 1.508”(Piston crown height) =

The 330 is 308 crank ground offset to 2.0" With small journal cheve rods from a 283. I dont know what length they are.

Type of piston depends on compression ratio you want to suit your combo.

I have a set of brand new pistins for a 330 stroker sitting here. I was told to use small journal 327 rods. have rings and bearings to go with. might put em on ebay.

  • some nice rocker covers
also need a rachet shifter to suit (thinking about a pro stick or similar)

The offset crank's stroke is 3.1875" If you offset it more and cannibalise the crank using 40 under SJ chev brgs you'll get 3.255 make. You loose a little in getting the journal in the right place and round. So 4.03 bore and 3.1875 stroke makes a Holden 325.26 cubes, Narrowing bearings and rods to suit widening the crank journals knocking the tails of the skirts on the chev pistons is a lot of effort for 12.75 cubes. Compared to 30 over Holden at 312.51cubes. And if you want to decrease the mechanical energy ina Holden, by all means put a 6.125 rod in it. I'll build one with a 400 length rod and flog you up hill and down dale.

Would be a good bet I'd say. Depending on what they are you might get decent cash, hard to say. Considering KB forgies are about $300 on USA ebay and SRP forgies are about $500.

Is that SJ or LJ?

Decrease "mechanical engergy"? Please elaborate. I'm not a scientologist.

SJ they are always SJ in an offset crank, Holden pin is 2.125" The SJ is 2.0, the LJ is 2.1".
The long rod is more suited to high RPM if the engine is parked at 8500 and above all day it'll work fine. If you put a shorter rod in the gulp better on they inlet port by pulling away from TDC faster. If youdrive your car from light to light dont waste your money on long rods. That's really all you need to know.
