Default 308 Oil dramas

hitheadhi, just a quick 1, i've got a 308 black motor, all good, except the sump gasket. I have had alot of trouble with this gasket... Ive tryed a 4 piece cork on dry, then cork with a sealent, and then a 1 piece rubber gasket on dry. i cannot seem to contain the oil. The sump it self seems good, no dimples on the mating sufrace. A friend told me to check the PCV valves, and there all good. Its starting to get a little fustrating!! Any info out there at all would be awsome,
cheers

Forget the PSV valve ,it wont pressurize your sump enough to cause leaks
If you had that sort of pressure there would be dent in the bonnet where the dipstick got fired out.!!
Where does it leak from ,Front ,rear,LHS RHS ??
How tight you doing it up ?, so you pull the engine out everytime to do this ?

And i just take the k frame out, n support the motor, and do it that way, but currently atm gonna take her out, n have a good look.

I reckon the sump is warped. Try a newer one. See if that helps

the sump is cracked (or warped)

these sumps have a habit of cracking
where the front (or rear) flat mounting surface
curves down to go under the timing case (or rear cap)
so my engine man tells me

I might add......
The original Holden sump on my VK had been off at some time
and brazed up on the front LH corner

Torque wrenches do not always work well at low settings and I do not use them on sump or tappet gaskets.
If it is only a small area you could try some "Silastic 732" it is an engineer grade silicon adhesive not just a sealant and has worked for me. Degrease, clean and dry. Wipe a good thick covering from sump to block over affected area and leave to set till next morning before starting.

I find it hard to believe that the Late Model 1 piece gasket didnt do the Job , unless as Aliti and Smitty2 state its bent/warped or cracked.

of course
there is one other answer
and yes I have seen it.....
someone is over-filling the sump

yep
wrong dipstick in hole
my mate was tipping in around 7.5 litres
to get the oil level right on the dipstick
couldn't work out why the seals and gaskets kept
blowing...Easy when you tip in nearly double the oil

WB5LTR you cant put brains in statues. I've seen people fill the engine up with oil, yeah all the way up more than a few times. I wonder how these people cross the street or tie their shoes.
