304 performance upgrades
I have VS SS with the 304 165kw motor in it and it's come time to get some more power out of the old girl. It already has cold air induction and K&N filter. The auto has been tricked out with corvette servo gears, stage 2 shift kit and a 2800rpm stall convertor. I was thinking of cam and performance chip first. What sort of cam is best for these motors ??? Is there a performance chip that gives you a good power increase without having to do much to the motor ???.

this has been covered a fair bit but anyway as well as exhaust some extractors, nice cam, chip, diff gears and also shave some meat off the heads the VS motors run pretty low comp and you'll probably have to do this to suit the cam upgrade just remember when you start upgrading things other things have to be done too so you get the full potential of each mod

i would go a set of shimmed 3.9 gears, twin 2 1/4" exh, tri-y paceys, crane 286 cam, shave the heads to get around 9.5:1 comp. All depends on your budget and what yuo want the car to do

in my VP SS, i have a 71mm throttle body, ported manifold to match T/B, pacies, twin 2 1/2" exhaust to the diff then single 3" back, SS inductions CAI (modded to flow more) with K&N, 8.8mm spiral leads, bigger injectors (next size from standard), 3.9:1 diff gears, stage2 shift kit, big trans cooler and a big thermo fan... (thats it i think lol)
theres a few mods u can do lol. i ran a 14.8 @ 93m/ph straight after fitting the new injectors and CAI. im in desperate need of a tune as its leaning out up top...
just remember, some mods require u to get a tune for them to work to there best, or work good at all. im chasing a sub 14et before opening the motor up, but once i do that, ill be goin for a crane 286 cam, 10.1:1 compression, flat top hypertechnic pistons (30thou over-sized), balanced crank, hi-energy sump and oil pump, plus the rest of the goodies... but thats gonna cost abit

there's not a lot between those 2 ratios but i've got 3.7 now & wish i'd gone 3.9 as i use my VL mainly for draging there's about 300 RPM between the 2
