Cool why wont XR8 RUN PROPERLY

hi guys im posting here for my old man.
he owns an au xr8 with about 107,000km on the clock.
not so long ago something went haywire. the car would start and it seemed to idle fine, but once some throttle was added it sounded like it was missing or something in a real bad way(had to play with the throttle to get the rev's up).
It is drivable but its a real pig, power wise as it has none.
not blowing any smoke either.

At first he thought it may have been the fuel pump, which he replaced(ford wanted nearly $500 for 1) he got a 2nd hand 1 put it in, then checked the old one, which turns out fine also.

my thoughts were maybe the TPS, air flow meter or something like this.
ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED, CHEERS ARRON

i am completely unfamiliar with fords as im a holden boy

My wife had a similar problem with her Fiat Everything was checked, fuel pump, EFI and goodness know what else. Got the car back, the problem just continued... turned out to be a faulty ignition coil
