Default Computer troubles

I have a VH SL/E and am having troubles with the trip computer. The display shows the clock alright and can zero all the other options (avg fuel consumption avg speed etc.) but i can not get them to tick over when i am driving along. I have reset the computer and everything which leads me to think that it is the hardware side of things. I need information on where the comp gets its speed from (on the tailshaft or wheel etc?) to see if there is a wire disconnected or what. Also is the fuel consumption circuit on the same circuit as the speed circuit meaning that one wire not on somewhere could affect the whole system. I have already connected wires back onto the fuel consumption meter today but it still isnt working. Anyone who has dealt with it before or knows anythng about it please contact me. Thanks.

you need a genuine GMH manual for this

the whole thing(inc tests to do) is included as one whole section in the repair manual..You also get the wiring diagrams
