Hi guys i have just got a new speco tacho and am not sure how to fit it, it has the green, red and black wires. From what i can see as the instructions are not very good, the green goes to the -ve on the coil the black would be ground and the red to acc, the ute as a VQ stato loom and i have found the brown tacho wire or i think it is, how do i test this and where does it come into the wiring?
Thanks Tonner |

Sure why not?

The tacho wire goes to the green one, as you said red is +12V and black is ground. Not really sure how you test the wiring first, I guess at least check that it isn't +12V with the ignition on or off before trying the tach, a small test light or multimeter may flicker a bit with the engine running?

I'm not so sure about this now - I thought it wouldn't have had any power like that but I've just checked mine and there is some voltage on it exactly as you say. Try it and see, just don't leave it running long if the needle doesn't rise or if it goes all the way up (anything in between can't be wrong).

try this mate:
red - 12v ignition black - engine ground green - -ve side of coil or tach terminal on your electronic ignition cheers, brett

the brown one is the tacho wire from the loom itself or so i am told its not on the gauge itself, its an injected 5ltr if that makes a diff SS, i have tested the brown wire with a test light while the eng is running and it flickers bloody quickly
