Default Torana Mods I've Done and Planning

Guy, I thought it was time I started a thread on the SS. As I modify something on the old girl I will post it up here to keep you up dated.

I bought the car about 4-5 months ago, in that time I have preformed a few mods and updates, first thing I did was loose the flogged out B&M Maga shifter and replaced it with a Quicksilver shifter.

Before

After

The next thing to do was replace the standard (be it highly modified) manifold with a Edlebrock Performer manifold and in the process port match it, also replace the Kmart chrome/paper air cleaner with a K&N 3X9" filter & extreme top .

Before

After

I have also recently change the rolling stock from 10x15 & 8x15 B45 Simmons with 295/50/15 & 245/50/15 rubber to 10x15 wearing 275/50/15 M/T Radial ET Streets and 4x15 with 165/85/15 Hankook's.

Before

After

Check out the different size o the front tires, and let me tell you how much nicer she is to drive with the skinnys on the front!!!

You also may of noticed the 6pt cage is missing in the second photo of this post, I took it out because the rear bars are to close to the passengers heads.

Over the next Three weeks before Springnats, I plan on fitting a spool, having the front end aliened, fitting a BG 650 Mighty Demon and fuel line to suit, having it tuned, installing a new Head unit and speakers and having a bit of wiring done. I'm not sure I will have it all done in time but going to try.

Looks way tougher with the welds , mate . Looks real nice. Did you drop the rear a bit , or is it just the change of tyres thats done that?

Awesome thread, keep up the details

I'm not so keen on your wheel and tyre swap, I prefer what it had before, but each to their own (although I can imagine the steering is a lot lighter, I know what that's like).

Curious about the console, I have seen a few like yours now - where you have those three switches, mine doesn't have the separating edge and the shifter surround/boot goes closer to the stereo (both look factory to me though). Mine's a manual, is this a factory difference between auto and manual consoles/shifters?

The shifter is a lot better, also why did you reduce the diameter of the air cleaner, wouldn't it fit through the bonnet?

Tombstone, You picked it Mate, the tire profile is a little shorter than the old ones, only 1/2" or so.

76lxhatch, I'm not sure, the console was in the car when I bought it. I believe the switches are factory accessory switches, I use them for the fuel pump, demister and thermo fans.
Who ever cut the hole in the bonnet didn't position it in the most optimum place, the 9" filter only just fits past the rear most edge of the hole.

Rob, I went a 4 1/2" offset on the Draglites, the Simmons had a 5 1?2" offset, these fit so much better with a lot less scrubbing.

moot, the front chassis rails have had holes cut in the side to access the K frame bolts, it has also been re enforced.

Cheers Guys.

This is what mine looks like - it has a Toymota gearbox so the shifter isn't original but the boot etc all appear to be. The silver on the screwed down piece matches the dash and it extends right up the the lip beneath the stereo. (I made the stereo surround because some clown had cut a massive hole there)

It seems to be the same location as the M20 shifter would have been (the current shifter is bent forward to fit), but perhaps a previous owner was enterprising enough to make the extra piece to cover up a bodge job?

Also I really like your engine bay, I wish I could get mine that clean!

Cheers, Jase and WB.

76lxhatch, I've been looking at photos on Torana interiors on eBay, I have seen quite a few center consoles with the same three switches on them the same as mine and have not seen any like your SS. Maybe it was a NZ option?

You're right of course, the console I have is the odd one out, everyone else's is the same. I reckon that two different people built the car as some work is really high standard and done right, but other things (like the flares) are almost bodge jobs, can't have been the same person.

Looking forward to seeing your stereo installation, hope you're not planning on filling the boot up with amps and subwoofers

Good job on removing that cage finally bro!
The wheels do look nice & the back dropping a bit lower was a nice bit of luck - looks better still.
One more thing you need now for the exterior look...................tint!
KEEP MAXING OUT THAT CREDIT CARD DUDE - THAT'S WHAT THERE FOR!!!
