my hj 350 full build
hi guys this is my new project a 1975 hj sedan, i was goin to fully redo my ute but my wife wants kids in the next few years so i didnt want to spend alot of money on my ute if i may be put in some kind of position to sell it, my parents are trying to get me to keep the ute as ive had it since i was 16 and was my first car im now 22,
anyway i plan to bare metal this sedan and fix all the rust and do a few other things to it so far ive pretty much stripped out all the interior and will soon be taking out the chassis, the sedan will take the seats and dash and console, the front clip, front suspension, motor and gearbox out of my ute as i only did that nearly 2 years ago
i have alot of work to do and im hoping for help and advice from the people on AV8, this build is either going to destroy my love of cars or make it burn stronger

i would leave the ute alone and do the panels for the sedan the effort in prepping the front end and then what are you going to put on the ute?
still watching this and waiting for you to go overboard

probly nothing, or id put the not so great clip off the sedan that i havnt picked up yet on it and sell it as a roller or mabe keep it for years to come but living in town i just dont really have the room and if it was to be left at my parents it would be destroyed by rats,
ohh and i will be goin over board lol, i plan for this 2 take a while hopefully even no ive striped the inside in 2 days since i got it, the main things i want is a cowl scoop fiberglass bonnet im goin to weld vz ss flutes into the guards and probly dynamat the whole thing even no that stuff is as expensive as gold, ive got a decent peice of plenum rust so thats the major rust issuemy HJ sedan rebuild http://www.aussiev8.com.au/conversio...ull-build.html

50x50x3 is good i just built one for my monaro used mainly 40x40x3 and its plenty strong enough but dont forget to gusset the corners but my one is a little different to the norm as i dont like the pivot point being so crude as 2 bits of pipe
just remember bigger is better and if skills are a little under par overcompensate

i took the hole cowl off today, sort of crying on the inside now, but if i was gunna do another hq-wb i would definitely cut off both corners of the cowl and check for crap, even the side that wasnt rusted was so full of crap it was only a matter of time before it rusted out, i have a few idea's about how im goin to rebuild it, i still have the issue of no welder will have to sort that out soon but here are the horror pics

Hey mate good to see your getting right into it and pulling off the scuttle, I thought the plenum on my wagon was good but when I went to repair some rust in the scuttle I to found the corners of the plenum had rusted out and needed to be replaced. Just wondering how your going to go about repairing yours? Looks like a lot more work than mine

To be fair it was possibly a dealership issue as well, a better dealer may have worn the cost to keep a customer happy.
