LX406's BBC HQ Kingswood Sleeper build
Hello there,
As most of you know from another thread, I have a new exciting project about to begin. I sold my HG Prem (UNRULY) and bought a 68 Camaro with the proceeds. This was was nice and all, but not fast and angry at all. I loved it's looks and style, but one thing nagged at me the whole time.......I didn't build it. I couldn't take any pride in it, as it was someone else's creation. This got to me in the end and I sold it. Here is a pic of the car if anyone missed it:

The Plans:
I have always wanted a big block, always. I decided to follow my gut feeling and build the car i have always wanted. I love sleepers too. My HG prem used to be a sleeper with a venetian blind, vinyl roof and a 406 SBC. I had a ball with that car cruised it all the time, raced it at Calder and Heathcote, and did burnouts at events like the easternats. SO I am going down that track again......sleeper.
I have already done some shopping and purchased a 540ci Shafiroff Ultra Street BBC. It's being build as I write this, and will be ready for shipment on May 8th! I have also bought a HQ Kingswood from a fella in Qld:

I have also snagged a 2 speed powerglide, brand new, Hughes brand from the states. Has a transbrake and a billet planetary set.
This car is gonna be cool!
I plan to keep it sedate looking, but I will have no choice with the carby being too high, so a subtle cowl scoop will need to be fitted. I was thinking I'll see if I can get away with a 2" one. THat's a wait and see scenario.
To get the car on the road I am currently building a near stock 454. I will run this engine for a while to iron out the new car gremlins, then I will fit the 540. Rego should be ok as I am in a car club that offer's club rego, and all i have to do prove to the mechanic the car is safe and well built and he will pass it.

Yep i sussed that Q out aswell. Cheap buy. Have you planned a diff yet? 35 spline?

The diff will be a totally new 9" creation. I will buy a housing and tubes. Aftermarket bearing ends and brackets. I have a mate who has a jig and is a wizz with the welder. I will make it suit the wheels I buy, probably 15x8" rally wheels with a 255/60/15 drag radial. As for a centre, and axles, that will be decided upon later, but what ever I do it will have to be strong as the 540 puts out near on 700 ft lbs torque and I intend on using all of that!

Visor, venetian blinds, bowling hat, 2" pea shooter exhaust poking out the back etc etc. I'm gonna have fun thinking of things to do on this HQ to make it a sleeper.
