    Default Hq gts coupe

    Hi All

After joining the forum and reading nearly all the HQ Coupe posts and threads and seeing some killer cars and combo's I decided to sell my VE HSV GTS and look for a HQ Coupe to be my new ride.

Was looking for a while there was 2 cars I really liked but I finally bought this a few months ago.

Ashes post and build sold me on this car and colour scheme and engine combo was perfect.

    Motor BBC Stock Mild Cam
    Carby Holley HP 650 DP
Gearbox Turbo 400 with 2500 Stall
    Diff 9" 3.7 Diff Gears

Since buying it I have added the following

    Number Plates

Reconditioned Manual Steering Box got rid of the power steering

Dual 3inch exhaust with balance pipe or H pipe and hooker aero chamber mufflers just before the diff.

    Full Manual Valve Body

An Air Filter which is Out of Bonnet

Recently bought a Reconditioned HZ Statesman Brake booster bloody hard to find hope to fit it soon.

Next on the cards would be bigger carby, short water pump and pulleys to suit, twin thermo fans, new carpet, and look at building and half decent engine for it.

    Air Filter Out of Bonnet

Big thanks to Ash GTS454 and Mark HANFUL for there help with answering some of my questions.

    John

Very good looking car, good body and lines, very clean. Nothing better than driving a bit of muscle + BBC. I would have to agree with Ash, the air cleaner out of bonnet doesn't do it for me either. Did you cut the bonnet you bought it with or do another ? Congratulations , I like the first pic plus the side shot. Classic HQ , perfect.

lovely car, spot on. dunn worry bout the hole in the hood, in fact if i was you i'd remove the hood full stop and fit a 6/71 on top along with an increase ton the rear wheel and tyre size with my plasma cutter, then you have the perfect HQ coupe.
running with the big boys now my friend haha

    Thanks Ash

I would not have cut a hole in the bonnet if that filter fitted, I have to remove the air filter for the bonnet to close.

    Hi Mario

I cut the original bonnet that came with the car when they fitted the motor they must have removed the bonnet and someone has dropped it on one corner there is a crease or bend in the bonnet.

I'll buy another bonnet and get a reverse scoop like yours on it, I was stressed that the motor did not have an air filter on it that's why I did it.

    Cheers

So far no problems with the boys in blue I was worried as I was driving it nearly all day on Friday and there were cops everwhere, they were behind me along side me I felt boxed in at one stage thinking I'm going to get done for sure but all good no worries so far.

It does not stick out to high so I'm hopeing it will be fine for the moment until I save some money and buy either a new bonnet with reverse cowl scoop or put a pro stock scoop trimmed down to suit on it.

The car has been getting alot of thumbs up from people who appreciate these cars when they see it cruising around, especially driving past a few pubs on the way home lol

I love it ,a reverse cowl with the stripes on it will look great, I am about to atempt a steel reverse cowl on mine ,going to try and make the cowl look as if its part of the bonnet skin when you look from top or bottom and reposition the factory bracing around the underside.

The reverse cowl will look great on your car & with the stripes , I think ONN20 has cowl with stripes, looks really good.

Bet you get more thumbs up than your previous ride .

Ash another WOK required I think lol.

It was a good score mate, and when i saw it on ebay I tripped out a little with the similarity (other than it is clearly in better nick than mine) you will be amazed at the attention it gets and you may get away with it, I have never even been looked at in mine. Btw, I agree on the blower!!

It was a good score mate, I'd like to think so, as I sold and immaculate VE HSV GTS with all the bells and whistles and in March this year I put a cam in it and decked the heads and it made over 400rwhp with 22" wheels and 3.7 diff gears stock stall convertor and was my daily driver.

(other than it is clearly in better nick than mine) Not sure about better nick than yours, it needs some work, photo's hide alot of things that you can't see thank god for that lol.

I have never even been looked at in mine. A million hits from this site alone LOL, let alone in the real world can't be to many in that colour scheme going around in QLD with BBC nice as.

Blower's hmmmmm love them but way to much money involved for me, I am more into heads and cam combo's lumpy cam's with 106 LSA to 110 LSA being the max i'd go.

I'll have to buy a performance book and find out about me heads I think it is holding the motor back, and see what's a good size cam as well
