Dad and i have been fiddling with my utes (collected 4 for parts 1 good and commodre ) since Dec 2009, were doing a bare metal respray and have just undercoated the chassie and buying new rubbers to paint and reassemble, how'd you go with a diff for you ute?, dad decided to go commodore in mine mainly for the availablity of parts and are cheap , a good 3:08 sals is not cheap, just in the process of making a jig to convert to leaf spring mounts

yer well we got my old HX for parts and a HZ panel van sittin down the back. My utes got a 3:08 sals in it, unfortunatly its only single wheel spinner. So we are using that for now and most likely either gonna change it to LSD if we find the gears and all for it, or put a 9 inch in it. Just gettin it on the road for now and change that later.

dads come in handy hey :P gotta learn some how, everybody starts somewhere and you don't learn by watching as much as you do by trying to do stuff.

as with your diff its not too hard to find a decent diff shop or even 2nd hand lsd gears its probably alot easier than chucking a bw diff in and 10 bolts are plenty strong. what state are you in ? i may be able to recommend a place
Thanks dude, hows ur build commin??? I spos i should take some more pics and upload em soon. Live in NSW man, my dad does have a mate that owns or works at a diff shop or sumfin like that. Cant remember what its called, its round Silverwater.

Lol. Yer i know they are strong diffs, i aint worryign bout breakage, i just want sumfin with a good ratio to be quick off the line cause im gonna drag race it.
Vk's are nice aswell, we have a VC paddock basher wich is heaps good. This ute is gonna be my daily driver, but im bit worryed man cause i dunno bout WA, but here in NSW there are ALOT of ****heads who will take any oportunity to key it or throw rocks or sum other faggy shit.

Um, i used 400wet, 600 wet, 800wet and then 1000wet. Then i just used mag wheel polish. I gotta get more sandpaper cause i gotta do the front 2 which are in really bad condition. Do it when they off the car man...so much easier without the nuts in the way lol

as 75hjprem said just change the ratio, if your 3:08 ratio is in good nick you could probaly sell it for enough to buy a different sals ratio seeing as you already have 4 wheel discs, im going commodore diff(3:08) because a good 3:08 sals is not cheap and will become very hard to get parts for later on, and commy already has discs, ive got a vh paddock basher which hardly resembles what it should look like, no boot, bonnet, lights and a homemade bullbar, good fun overall

Nice thread Metal-Head35, love the colour (Kawasaki green!...I love my bikes lol)

I bought an HZ tonner not long ago with the same conversion, also auto...and like you I'm hoping to convert to a manual. Did it take much to swap over? I'm wondering if I'll need a different conversion wiring loom or if the one in it will fit. Also I presume you had to change the crossmember or make one from scratch and cut the hole in the trans tunnel for the shifter...where about did it end up? Any chance of some photo's? I'm quite tall so a bit worried the shifter will sit to far back and be awkward to use.

Its atomic green!!!! but i love Kawasaki green too, i was thinking of paitning it the KTM orange at one stage!!
Youll have to get a differnt flywheel for the conversion. I read that you need the manual wiring loom too.....but there is no wires going from the ECU to the gearbox. So mine is running fine...now (had major problems with the fuel line thta took awile to sort out), but yes it is just the auto wiring loom still, but we did end up plugging the Manual computer in, not sure if it had any effect because the problem turned out to be with the fuel line.
We did have to modify the crossmember abit and knock the tunnel out abit aswell. The shifter is a bit far back but my dad has jsut made a bar to bolt on it to bring the actual stick forward, i will upload photos tomorrow for you
