Engine change for TRIKHQ
I have been thinking for a while about an engine upgrade for TRIKHQ,
Current thoughts are 383 , same as 383 as I built for mates 55 Chev.
Pulled the motor on the previous weekend to fix a small leak at the back of the sump, whilst it was out I put it on MCEComps dyno so see what the old girl had. Made 453hp and 403ftlbs.
Now am deciding weather to strip this motor and upgrade or sell this motor as is and build fresh . Need a few things to fall into place for fresh engine.
This is what it has if I sell it :
Engine is a 010 4 Bolt 350 + 0.030, fully deburred and prepped,, decks squared, bored & torque plate honed, zero deck height.
Steel Crank Magnafluxed, Tufftrided and blueprint ground, 10/10
292 Turbo Heads, full port, TRW 2.05 & 1.60 Stainless Valves,
Crane 99893 1.5 Diameter Springs, 7/16th ARP studs, Isky retainer and collets, Crower 1.6 stainless steel roller rockers,
Cloyes true roller timing chain, Erson solid cam. 605" lift & 264,268 duration at 0.50"
TRW 11:1 forged pistons, Sealed power file backrings, Manley pushrods, Mellings High volume oil pump. Fully prepped X rods, shotpeened , polished, magnafluxed with SPS rod bolts. High Energy Pan.
Fluid Dampner Harmonic Balancer, Whole assembly has been Blueprinted with a final static compression ratio of 10.86.
Induction system consists of port matched Bowtie Victor Jnr Manifold, Holley 830 Annular discharge Carby.
Ignition is a Crane Hi 6 MSD system
Engine was tested with the 830 first the with the 950 HP.
Produced 453HP 403ftlbs
Ran 11.83 @ 116MPH in 3608lb car.
Below are some pics from when I built it, engine out and a bit of footage from the dyno last Friday.
Water pump, pulleys, ignition dizzy etc ,alternator, stud girdle not selling with package.
Looking at about $5500

Freshen up the botom end and treat yourself to some big heads Mario.
Simple. Costs would be lower and will keep the wife happy.

There's a stroker big block in the for sale section that would compliment your coupe nicely

Just noticed in one of your pic's the bottons near the washer bottle. For stop starting the engine from the engine bay I take it? Nice touchLast edited by HK580; 03-11-2009 at 10:31 PM.

I remember reading a Chevy book that said that the 292 turbo heads are very rare. They were a experamentle head with very large chambers to keep comp down for turbo aplications.
But it is still one tuff sounding engine

About 13HP between 830 and 950 straight up. Engine felt more responsive.
Turbos were a performance head supplied by GM before the Bowtie series and are getting harder to find, had 180cc Intakes as cast and 64cc chambers and angle plug configuration.TRIKHQ

Well I have decided to strip the 350 and sell of what I can.
350 10/10 steel crank, 292 Turbo heads with manifold, 830 Annular Carby.
X rods with 11:1 TRW pistons, ( can have whole balanced rotating assy )
Have ordered most parts for the new combo, will be 383
AFR's
Eagle crank/Rods
Comp Cam Mech Roller
Victor Jnr
950 HP Ultra
Still deciding on piston, will be SRP or Bullet CP
If you've seen my thread on SBC 383 build, will be very similar combo.
Trying to get big more comp, maybe slightly bigger cam.

Hi
The dyno cell is setup correctly, I know before he starts a test he switches on some fan/extraction system .
I have seen dyno tests ( other places) where extractors are open in the cell , no exhaust capturing at all , this cell seemed to work fine, no exhaust fumes in the cell.Last edited by TRIKHQ; 07-11-2009 at 11:21 AM.

I see they have Smitty2's favourite Larry Perkins paint on them too. Might aid Oil return from top of heads?
