Default power steering conversion

Hey guys,

I'm looking at converting the manual steering in my HX over to power steering, because I just can't steer the damn thing!
Just curious as to whether anyone else has done this, and if anyone has any suggestions on the best way to go about, or where to get it done.
Cheers guys

You will need a power steering box. Best bet would be to try and buy a new one.
Unfortunately most places want an exchange unit.
You will need a power steering pump and bracket to suit your donk. The pumps are readily available from parts shops.
You will also have to change the steering arms to the short ones on the stub axels and a pulley for the pump that fits on your harmonic balancer. .
Most Holden wreakers should have the bits you require. Don’t buy the pump from them just the brackets, maybe the steering box for exchange for a new one, steering arms and pulley. The pump lines get them made new from EZED.

V8s power steering set ups are easier to come across than 6 cyl set ups.

I don’t think I have missed anything, steering boxes exchange are around $280 all up expect to pay between $600 to $800 for the set up.
I dont know anyone who could do the work for you, but its a very simple conversion. You should have no real problems.

Coop I think you covered everything except the steering shaft donut - you need the power steering version as the power box has a larger diameter input shaft.

have you checked your steering arms, short arms (2 inchs)long are for powersteering long ones (3 inchs) for normal steering. short arms they come standard on drum brake holdens hq,hj,hx,hz you must change them when doing a power steering conversion
