Question Stroke It

Help please.
I am looking at purchasing a VR/VS 5.0L to play with. What I am looking at doing is stroking it out to a 383. Now, what sort of power outputs would I be looking at with only putting the kit in ? (no other internal mods)
Will I have a problem with IRS ?
Is traction going to be an issue? (probably, don't care anyway)
Where can I get a kit and who would install it for a reasonable price ?
Will the T5 be able to handle the power increase? or should I get a T56 seeing I will probably bolt a hair dryer on it later on ?
Any help would be great thanks.

Mazte, Just about finishing putting a 383 Stroker Kit into my VS, it has a factory VT Roller Block so i am fitting a small hyd roller cam around the 222@50, im keeping the std VS heads and running 9:1 Comp, hoping with this very simple combo to make around the 250kw/335hp at the flywheel, later down the track if i keep the car i will fit a decent intake manifold and mayby a bigger cam to make some extra power.

IRS will be find as long as you dont fit really sticky tyres or flog the arse out of it.
Traction - Will depend on how you drive and what tyres and suspension you have.
COME, Crankshaft Rebuilders, Eagle and SCAT all do kits for 383's
T5 will just cope, but you will have to respect it, but forget the t5 with any boost or a more than very mild 383. The t56 would be perfect.

Default A change of heart

So much for the VR/VS 5.0 Litre.
I have recently purchased a 2006 VZ SS Thunder,
6.0 Litre 6 speed with hard top.
What type of supercharger would be best suited to this vehicle?
Centrifugal or positive displacement ?
What is a ballpark cost for both systems and what would I be looking at power wise?
I have my project car and am looking at doing something different.
Any suggestions? It is Sting red and think I will keep the leather interior and exterior colour.
Everything else is up for mods

What is the stock compression ratio of the 6 litre?

I know guys " bolt on " forced induction but if the CR is high, it won't be running very efficiently.

I'm a big fan of rebuilding engines so i would suggest that if going forced induction.

I had good results with a Vortech V2 on a 5 litre windsor in an old XR8. Ran very nice, power was good with around 360hp at the wheels. It was good for a daily.

That is pretty high for forced induction. You should build the engine with low comp pistons if you intend on supercharging.

Both blowers work well. I like centrifugal blowers personally.

just flick an email to HP-F or G&D Performance, they'll give you some ideas on HP afterwards and pricing for any kit your chasing

on another note - where in the pilbara you working?? i was working at Area C for the most of last year, doing those upgrades working for Downer EDi

think i'll be making a call to cape lambert soon - if i want this HT built by chrissy, apparently NZ for new years (so the GF tells me) i'll need to get on a plane agan

as for the mods - the 6ltrs are punchy down low, so any forced induction is going to be crazy....if yor chasing magazine material, get the most expensive setup you can find and even then you might not make it in......i'd say be happy with a decent setup running 7-10 psi and it'll have awesome street cred and hold its own on the strip if you wanna head that way and still be putting 500hp to the treads

I myself went the way of a head, cam, diff gears and other extra's and love sticking it to the rice burners/supercharged ls1 boys....get a hell of alot more looks when your exhaust sends car alarms off.........plus it sounds awesome cruising for a car park in the bay city plaza car park

Wink

Magazine material ? Nah, I want to be able to drive it.
It is awesome to drive as it is but I want something the missus refuses to drive, so it has to be scary
.
Pro Charger say they have a kit that will give me 346 to 385 kw
at the rear wheels and want around $7000.
I also have a '96 Senator 185i and that has the perfect sound for keeping old ladies from walking out in front from Myers St to Ryrie St. I will have to fix that problem in the ute
.
Yeah, bought the beast from Smiths in Geelong. Feel a bit stiffed on the deal but I did get the car I wanted. Pulled a nice 50 footer in 2nd out at deakin uni before I left, but had to pull it up short before I drew the wrong sort of attention
.
Hey Crunchy_Nut, maybe we should get together when I get back to Geelong in October, If you aren't over here. Maybe swap ideas and stories. Let me know either way.
