Default T700 Kickdown/Throttle Linkage

Has anyone fitted a T700R4 to a carby Holden V8? I fitted one in my HQ recently and the throttle/kickdown cable ration seems a bit out as the tranny is shifting very hard under light-moderate throttle and yet is adjusted so it kicks down appropriately when given some throttle.

I'm after some advice on getting the kickdown to throttle linkage ratio right. It's hooked up to a Technocarb 4 barrel straight gas carby. The linkage arrangement is the same as a Holley mech secondaries from what I can tell.

My thoughts are to get a factory pulley/linkage from a Holden V8 injection throttlebody. Is that the way to go?

Any advice appreciated.

Hi You can make a bracket to suit carby pretty easy.
If cable is out of adjustment trans should shift late as
well as hard if so you need to back off the cable.

The factory pully is eccentric and provides a varying proprtion of the throttle linkage movement for the trans cable. It's question of proportion. The current linkage is linear not eccentric. The cable is set so as to allow the tranny to kick down without having to give the thing a big welly.

It is not a "kickdown " cable like found on the earlier GM trans.
It controls all the trans functions , upshift and down shift.
If not adjusted correctly you will burn up your trans real fast .

Yeah, wrong terminology I guess. But my problem still stands with trying to get the right ratio of travel relative to throttle movement.

Has anyone put the factory type eccentric throttle/trans cable onto a holley type baseplate?

I am not familar with the Commo setup but the Chevs don't have a eccentric , just a stud on the TB linkage .

Holley make a kit to adapt T700 TV cable to Holley 4bbl carbs; maybe that would work for you.

Vettoz is right - this cable is not an optional extra - I've just spent over $800 finding that out. I've had to shift the bracket on the technocarb because it fouls VN manifolds, as does the rochester - and was told to keep the new connection point at 27 or 28 mm from the throttle pivot. It worked ok and Transmas was happy to adjust it from there. Just watch out for those crappy chrome on chrome cable brackets - make SURE it can't loosen, and make witness marks for where it is set up properly in case it ever does slip out of adjustment.
