Default 4x4 getting 308 heart transplant

Hi all,
I am new to this forum and thought I would introduce myself,
I have a 95' 4runner 4x4 with a few mods, you know the usual body lift, suspension lift, 33' mud tyres, bullbar & winch.

But here comes the biggest mod....
I have done my homework on what is needed and what needs to be modified to drop in a 308, I will be going the carby model v8.

only thing is..... I am sick and tired of being fed a lot of crap by "engine builders" as to their over the phone prices, nice and polite .... until you get there to place an order and part with CASH.... what do you reckon happens ??
price has been mis-quoted etc etc etc.....

Can anybody recomend someone to build a warm 308 who will do what they say they are going to do ?
I have cash and ready to place an order.

sorry for the winge, but some people... aarrgghhhh

cheers

There are plenty of builers in Melb area and im sure they guys on here will recommend you to the good ones. First of all you need to decide how much you want to spend and what you want to acheive with this motor, how warm do you want it to be. Being a 4X4 you will most likely want loads of torque out in the scrub so you may want to consider going a std to mild rebuild with 355 kit instead of making the 308 real wild. Is it going to be gas or petrol, have you allowed for adapters and radiators etc in your costing, also engineers cert. Post up some more info on what you want from this.

Thanx mate,
I have got everything under control... V8 to toyo box adaptor, clutch, radiator, engine and gearbox mounts etc,
All i need now is a motor.

I have decided on a carbie 308 on straight gas

I dont want massive power, as i will be breaking diffs and axles, and cv's every time i go bush.

I reckon that between 180 to 200 ish kw's and around 400 to 420 ish newton metres of torque would be great... not extreme by any standards, but enough grunt for road and bush.

I have cash and ready to purchase, I just need someone reliable who will do what they say they will do, and be confident of their work ( after all, the wreckers will give me 30 days waranty on a 2nd hand 308 with no history )

cheers

sounds like you've done your research then gregstar, and your thoughts on engine mods etc should you get he power you want depending on specs. Id suggest you start a thread in the holden v8 section, saying that you want a mild combo for straight gas etc and do people know of any decent builders in melb, the only one that comes to my my right now is SIRCAR engine reconditioning they do quality work from what ive heard

hope that gets you on your way

Go to Paul Rogers, he was running r+c automotive in Bacchus marsh but i think he's out on his own now, top bloke to deal with, been around drag cars and engines for many years and is a top auto man too. I had a tough 308 done by r+c a while back.

PM me for his number.
