Default advice needed for stopping rust

hello, im currently preparing my LX SR torana for a respray and ive just removed my rear bumper and found a bit of surface rust where the bumper mounts to the body, the shell of the car was bare metal resprayed about 4 or 5 years ago so im worried what it would be like if when i finally finish the body itll look like in another 10 or 15 or 20 or what ever number of years it lasts before it needs another respray. i mean obviously treating the surface rust is a no brainer but does any body have any ideas on how to stop it happening again? im thinking maybe lightly spraying the bumper mounts with WD40 before i mount them up to the body. am i thinking in the right direction or is there a better way?

cheers adam

The WD40 cant hurt but unfortunately because Victor is a seaside town you will always cop rust more than other places Adam. Probably the best thing you can do is keep it away from the beach if possible! But you already knew that didnt u. What about powdercoating the bumper irons?

Not so sure about the WD40, won't it clean everything off and leave it exposed for rust? Fish Oil or something similar as COBRAXR8 says might be a better idea.

Yeah, fish oil would be better than WD40. I still reckon powdercoating the irons would do the trick as a long term solution though.

Try POR 15

I used this on our Monaro rebuild... You can paint it with a brush and you get an excellent finish. One of the best investments I've made... POR 15

Lookem up on google there are videos and testimonials from other satisfied users...

I've used POR15 as well, great product and works very well. Around $80/ltr. You could also have a look at this stuff, I haven't used it, maybe someone else has.
