Default Offroad Powerhouse....308 4x4

Hi Everyone,

Although it aint no Street Machine or Show Car, I thought I'd share a few Details and pictures of my latest toy.

1983 Nissan MK Patrol SWB.

Engine: Black 308, 20' up, 10:1, Crane 286, HEI Dizzy, Single Plane Torker Manifold, OHG X450 Gas Mixer, 2.5" Exhaust....

Trans: Nissan Turbo Diesel 5spd and Transfer case, 4.8:1 Diff Ratio.

Suspension: 2.5" Lifted springs, Koni adjustable Shocks.

Other: 33" Mud Tyres fitted to 14" Hurricane rims, ARB Bullbar and Rearstep/Towbar, Home made 4" Snorkel, ARB Roofrack, IPF Driving and Spot lights, Cibie Oscar Spot Lights on roof. Magna Seats, Commodore retractable seat belts and much more as in Pic's...

I bought this as an unfinished project with Stock V8 fitted, It is now on the road and a lot of fun to drive, Surprises a few people!!

I bought this as I love 4x4's but was tied between a performance car and a 4wd, with this I can have both...well sort of...lol..

Damn Photobucket is down, but when i finally get some Pic's up, Let me know what you all think.......

Nothing like the sound of a V8 in the bush. I was thinking of doing something similar with my 80 Series.

I know what you mean, I was always enveouse of mates with V8's in the bush....Big bog Holes, 4th gear @ 4000rpm...Rooster tails......Oh...Can't beat it...lol...
Can't beat power in the bush as well, A car with grunt will out perform the same car with lockers and a lack of power!! seen it happen many times!!

jUST DO IT!!
A good S/h Body is easy to find, and can be fitted over a weekend!!
Off with the old, and on with the new!!

It transforms the Patrol like you could not imagine!!

Gearbox and diffs are strong as they come!! No need to mod any of it!!
Only problem I have is the holden clutch....Needs a neavy Duty job!!

Default Water Leak...

Took my dash out to get to the Heater Core as it was leaking....
Ended up being a damn hose.....yep they have hoses and clamps behind the dash as well...I looked up everywhere on how to remove heater core, hoping to find I didn't have to remove everything.......no luck!!

Anyways, found the leak, have replaced hose, and pressure tested the whole heater system, and all is good, so today....In goes the Dash.....Bet it takes all day too.....

Could definately have alot of fun in that bad boy! A spot light and a dozen carton of eggs, would be perfect for a night in Surfers Paradise!

Wht sort of driving you doing ?
mate had a 60 series cruiser with the crane h226/314 cam, ended up removing it and going back standard had no low down torque for the hill climbs 4000+ RPM isn't fun when your going up a 30deg hill with water runoffs

although besides that fun to drive with the v8's, gotta love the sound when it echo's through the hills

todays Turbo diesels are quite impressive, my 100 series killed the 60 with the 308 he since sold it the rust took over

Default Hills...

Mine is pretty good down low now, not Ball tearing, but still impressive, and in low range, it is absolutely ridiculous at any rpm....

I have to admit, I'm pretty hard on it, and hills are not to walk up unless they are definate rollover possibilities..... in which case I have the T/Diesel 5 speed which has a 1st that is sooooooo slow it's not funny, so no problems here.....

I Ran my mates Mazda MPS Turbo a couple of weeks ago, and I actually pulled a car length on him up to 100k's, so no problem with Acceleration...
Although, I am still considering changing Cam Timing when I have the time, this will bring it on that little bit earlier, but I am enjoying the sound of the MK @ 6200rpm...through twin 2.5" System with 4" merge pipe from rear diff back....It is awesome...

Can't wait to take it out for a trip, just waiting for home life to settle, and grab some time off from work.......

My cousin has a Shorty Maverick with a 400ci V8, Turbo, intercooled diesel.
The thing is an animal in the scrub. Bit strange to hear a diesel clack and a V8 rumble.

Any more bush pics, Patrol V8.
