hi all i am at the tail end of completeing the conversion from carbied 308 to injected 308. time to wire, i am being told two different stories about the requirment of a speed sensor being fitted to gearbox.on on hand i was told i didnt need one if i was using vn-vp injection because they use non-electronic gearbox and on the other i am told it is a must have for any injection conversion the guys at castlemaine say it is a must but after spending $4000 on heads cam and pipes leads plugs fuel pumps surge tanks the wallet doesnt like to open any info would be great from anyone who has done the conversion.

From memory you will need the speed sensor. Its located in the back of the dash on the donor car.
I remember this because my auto elec made sure that I got it. My donor car was a VQ statesman 5.0 Now I think the speed sensor sent a message to the ECU to fire something - not anything to do with the gearbox because the VN, VP and VQ TH700 isnt controlled by the ECU and has nothing to do with it. If you cannot locate a speed sensor you need to buy this part that basically sends a signal to your ECU... they were about $250 when I was doing mine. I ended up ditching the conversion and selling it to Epitaph. |

so i wont have to fit anything to the speedo or gearbox? the reason i ask is because after fitting new 4.11 diff gears the speedo is out and i cant find a correct gear to correct it.

Depending on which G/box you use, there are seed sensors that fit into the G/Box where the speedo cable goes, then the speedo cable goes in the back of the speed unit. $200 from Castlemaine Auto. I have a brand new unused speed sensor to suit a Aussie 4 speed/trimatic that I don't need if you are interested and are running one of these G/Boxes.
