Default What V8 is better to use? Holden, ford or Toyota?

Hi there im new to this fourm. I have a 83 toyota hilux single cab mini truck and I want to chuck a V8 in it. At first I was going to put a 308 in it untill a mate of mine told me to put the toyota quad cam V8 in it as it has more power and you can get more power from it, is this true or is it alot cheaper and more easy to put the 308 in it? Anyone know of a good holden set up like the price of a 355 stroker?

your mate is right... although there is a price to go with it. the toyota quad cam 4Ltr V8 is a good motor, and can make some good power, but i guarentee it will cost u an arm and a leg to do so.

while a holden V8 is rather cheap to build. depending weather u want to go carby or EFI, u can pick up a holden V8 pretty cheap these days. and parts are easy to get a hold of. if u do the work yourself, u can build a good reliable tuff volden V8 for pretty cheap.

so i am gonna say go that route.... oh, that and i am kinda bias towards the holden V8

hey mate my next door neighbour was gonna do this his... from memory if u find a v8 out of a toyota soarer it will slip straight in without much dramas. and it may even use same sort of engine mounts. - alot less work.

by the way they arnt cheap to do.

IMO the toyota v8 is a good bit of gear, makes pretty good power stock, economical, and a half cut can be had for 2500-3000, and you have all the wiring etc and they are usually a relatively low km engine, the only hassles you will have are mounts, extractors and possibly sump, which you would have to do for any v8 you choose anyway. From what ive been told the supra boxes bolt straight up. With a nice exhaust the quad cam v8's sound really good. i think in a hilux, a stroker would probably be a bit much to be any more than a weekender, too much torque for its light arse hehehe

I suggest it will really have a alot to do with what you expecting from the car when your finished its all well and to build a drag motor but if your wanting to use it for daily driving then your probably not going to be happy with it.
If your looking for a quick weekender go the holden if your looking for a daily rocket go the the lexus or a mild 308.

dont forget too the 1UZ-FE also has 6 bolt mains and a very strong bottom end so good room for more power on a stock bottom end. And will also be more fuel economical than a 308/injected 304 could be.

Try this website too heaps of information out there for the lexus and Aggro is spot on they are heap more economical and that bottom end awesome.

Just be weary of the extra money in tuning and all that.

Have a mate putting a 1UZFE into a VH currently, one of the main problems is the width of the engine, they are wider than a big block, but its becoming quite a popular conversion so the gear is out there, they are a fantastic engine.

Im all for the EFI 304, nice basic injected v8, conversions been done many times before & these days they can be picked up so cheaply (wish they were that cheap when i did mine).

Advice is different to opinion.
