I've found a gearbox that might be a goer and it comes with a stall converter which is around 2500-3000 and my gearing will give me approx 2100rpm at 100kph. Does this mean that I am going to have slippage at this speed?
I haven't made a final decision on a cam yet but I'm thinking in the range of a 2000 - 6500 version. I know it's hard to say without specific figures. So far it's going to be a mild 350, vortech supercharger, 4.11 9 inch and the box I'm looking at is a turbo 700. Thanks! |

Interesting combo you're putting together there.
Your converter will still drive your gearbox under the "stall speed" so even though you will have some slip (which is the idea of a stall converter anyway) it won't be flaring all over the place if that's what you're thinking. There are plenty of street cars that get around with 4000+rpm converters that don't have any trouble at cruising speeds (or lower).

Bog stock 200,000km turbo' 304 V8 commodores with an decent intercooler and 9lbs of boost, and nothing else...are usless in first gear. and pretty much second. with a standard 308 diff. My opinion is if its a street car drop the 4.11 idea. or go a Powerglide. and your 3000 converter as you wont suffer loss of torque. |
