Default Drum brakes to discs conversion

Finally got a diff sorted for my Q but it's drum brake so I want to convert it to discs. I know hopper stoppers does a full conversion kit but what other options are there?
I think the Hoppers kit uses ford calipers? Are these calipers any better then VR/VS commodore or the original HQ/J/X/Z/WB calipers?

i dont know what sort of money you are looking to spend but i did this conversion to my banjo biff on my LX torana, using VN commodore rear disc brake set up. this conversion pretty much bolted straight onto my axle housing and after having the discs redrilled to torana stud pattern i even kept the same stud pattern. the only thing i had to get made were 2X1/4inch spacers that went between my mounting plates and my axle seals on my axles to push the seals in further and i had to get a hand brake cable made. all up this conversion might have cost me $200 and for about $165 each side you can buy HSV twin piston calipers which would be better again, . i know its a little of the topic of your question but it might be something else to think about.

cheers adam

Hi LX8,
Did you have to modify the diff at all to mount the calipers?
Where can you get the HSV calipers from? Sounds like what I'm after...

nah mate i bolted the disc brake backing plate straight on, the backing plate is what the calipers bolt to, like i said in my previous post youll need to put a 1/4 inch space (i used machined down old bearing cups) in between the axle flange and the oil seal to push the sealin that much further to stop the diff oil which leaks out if you dont. as for the twin piston calipers have a look on ebay or even go to sprints, R.E.P.C.O. or who ever you prefer and ask them. failing that im only using single piston calipers and i tell you it pulls up real nice. oh yeah youll need to get a hand brake cable made as well. hope that helps

cheers adam
