I have a Chrysler Centura with the 265 Slant but this is definite to change.
As a project vehicle I would like to drop something along the lines of a SRT-8 Hemi!!! Does anyone know if it can be done, or shouldI stick to something 'Normal' like a 390? Any help much appreciated, Tah. |

A mate of mine had one with a very hot 265 in it, went like stink but they have crap handling and crap brakes. So if you,re gonna drop a big lumbering v8 in one , you,d better do an upgrade on the chassis ,brakes and handling (check with an engineer first before you do anything).Cheers.

might not hurs to beef up the suspension either, as tombstone said, an engineer shoull be consulted before you start wasting cash. i hope your project comes to a completion though because i rekon she'd be a real beauty when its all done

Sounds like an awesome conversion mate. I love Centuras, I have two myself.
In regards to the handling, a 6 cylinder Centura has 4 cylinder in front of the axle and 2 behind. A V8 would have 4 infront and 4 behind. The weight of the 5.7 Hemi is comparable to a Hemi 6. So in theory this conversion looks like it will improve the handling. The new Hemi V8's are incredible motors. The 5.7 heads flow rediculous numbers for a factory head and with a clean up can flow in excess of 300cfm at 28". The 6.1 and the new 392 crate Hemi are better still, Ma MOPAR has redesigned the heads on these with larger ports for greater flow and the bore is also increased on the 392. Note these are really a factory race motor so if everyday driving and economy is your thing stick with the 5.7. The 5.7 is becoming a common motor in the states now so prices are dropping rapidly, the release of the 392 should help prices of the 5.7 to continue to fall. If it were me, I would give the $15k import motors a miss and have a look Stateside, some of the 5.7's are allready going very cheap on Ebay and if you have the budget and performance is your thing the 392 represents better value. If you do find one on Ebay These Guys may be able to help you get it home. Good luck with the car either way and keep us posted. Steve.

hi , hope this aint to late
I too dont know much bout the new gen stuff but it could be done, As 318ck said a 360 fits nicely. Ive done it and its regesterd in QLD all legal.Needed engine, trans, brakes, seat mods. It wasnt really that hard. Nice hugger headers and a custom sump is all i had to mod. ![]() |

I havn't got the time or cash, but oneday... Right now I'm stuck into rockcrawling and I'm still in school, so money doesn't exist... Eventually gonna build up a centura running on the 300C running gear, susp and caged for support.

You must remember that the E49 spec 265 Hemi was faster than any smallblock V8 anywhere (Including Mopars own) and held thet record for 30 years.
Bringing your 265 up to E49 spec would give you over 300HP and the car would be lighter. There is nothing like the satisfaction of blowing away cars with much bigger engines. That's why I love Hemis! |

As for that record someone told me :they were the fastest four door production car in aus, in 1976? or the year after the phase 3 ford? and the holden was a two door. As for me i went for the cubes, was gonna do a cortina but seen a ceny with a 318 and went ill do that, wait up a 340 umn can we get a 360 rego and mod plated.....yes. |
