G'day i was wondering if anyone could tell me if there would be any necessary modifications for a 440 to go into a V8 CK Chrysler by Chrysler. If so what are they, and approximately how much would they cost?
I'm asking because i'm trying to convince the old man to put a 440 in his CK, i've told him about a complete 440 & 727 auto for $1600, but he's not taking it because there may be some hidden costs to put it in. He's rebuliding the car with a budget of about $10,000-$20,000 for the lot. any help would be greatly appreciated, especially if he puts it in, coz i want the car when he goes |

I was told that they go in on the V8 K frame. It should bolt in. you would have to sort out radiater size to cool it and you would have to change the front torsion bars. Shouldn't be too hard

G'day, I'm new round here but thought I could help.
To fit a 440 big block into an Australian car (which are the same as an American "A" body) you need a set of big block engine mounts - typically the vehicle the engine and motor is out of would be a good place to start. Once you've hoisted the box and motor in you could check gearbox crossmember alignment. The 727 is a large g/box and may need some tunnel work to fit. You will also need a shortened tailshaft as it is slightly longer than a 904 as well. Please note there are two types of 727 (those fitted to small blocks and big blocks differ slightly.) A local 360 would have a slightly different 727 to what is fitted to a big block. Hope this helps... PS. If you are seriously considering this engine/box combo, you should invest in chassis strenghtening. Sub-frame connectors (ie. connect the front and rear chassis together by welding rails from front of the car floor to the rear chassis. There is also wheelspin issues you will face. Have fun ![]() |

yeah i did think of that but no matter how hard i tried to convince my old man he just won't get rid of the 318/904 he got in it, oh well i guess i'll just have to do it when i get my own MOPAR.

like what pistol grip said. you would have to grind out the old engine mounts on the k-frame and weld in the bb mounts. all there is to it. 727 will have no probs fitting as the 360s usually ran the 727 box anyway. the only difference between the small and big block is the bellhousing pattern where it bolts onto the block

Iv done this convertion many times, its so easy it will make your head spin, firstly is the car a V8 car?, it dont much matter but it does help to start with. I will help you thru it step by step, you only have to change one engine mount, but I need a little more info first, its worth the convertion, I personly think chrysler aust could have sold the Vals with the 440 and 383 engine as an option,

thanx man, but as a said earlier my old man is going to make it look pretty first then do the driveline. i keep telling him that there are complete 440's for less that $1500 around his area but he doesn't act on them. oh well.
But i will tell him that you are willing to give him a step-by-step guide tho.

not all 440s are greated equel but when buying try to find a motor and trans that is complete as possible ie pulleys, belts, brackets, mounts etc etc, and try to find one thats pre 73 for more compression, but if you plain on doing a rebuild the all blocks and heads are much of a muchness
