Unhappy 3 speed manual problems on VE

hey guys

ive got a 1968 ve val with 3 on the tree(3 sp man on the shaft)

i took the handle that changes the gears off by just removing the screw that ran through it and when i tired to put it back on i couldnt grab any gears besides 1st and reverse. any know how to fix this or how to explain this better maybe??

Its probably the linkages between the column and the box, have a mate put the lever through the positions and watch it under the bonnet and under the car.

but how would removing the handle thing affect the gear box tho... sorry im a newbie when it comes to drive trains and such :P

Most likely just bad luck, they are often slogged out at the bushes either end and a bit of movement out of the ordinary is enough to put things out of whack. First and reverse will be on one linkage and second/third on the other which is why it sounds like this is the problem (very common).

Like I said easiest to get someone to help you unless you have really long arms, just check to see whether everything is moving correctly and engaging the gears. Its just a few levers but because they are so long there is a lot of lost movement and bushes at either end are usually quite useless after a lot of kms. You'll probably find the linkage is moving but not far enough to engage the gear or something along those lines.
