Default 73 charger engine swap ?

Hey guys, Just a few questions about my recently acuired 73 Charger, I bought the car about 1 week ago and an having some problems with timing and vacume advance on the 318. I am thinking that the advance on the distributer is stuffed so is there any way of fixing this or does it need a new one ?

I have also been offered a 265 for free , that as far as i know is in running condition, and also know where there is a 360 hemi. Is it worth stuffing around with the 318 or going all out and changing it ?

What are some pluses about the 318 ? cause i havent found any so far .

Thanks guys , any info would be much apreciated.

hey Moparmadnes
Dont bother with the 265 you would need to do too much work to swap to a 6, next thing the 360 isn't a hemi and some will really ride you about that. The 360 would be a basic strait swap if you can find one worth putting in.
The big pluses with sticking with the 318 are that if it is the original motor the car will be worth more in the future chrysler nuts are very picky about matching numbers. And the end of the day the are a very good strong motor that can be made go real quick and remain reliable.
So keep tinkering with it you'll figure it out soon

Well the car was originally a 6 cylinder , but was changed to V8 many years ago and the original motor has long since been sold and i cant track it down. So since originality isnt an issue i'm thinking of really hoting it up. The front seats have been changed at some point ( not happy about that ) so i'll be putting in aftermarket seats in. Currently has 17" 5 spoke rims but i'm looking for a decent set of 15's.

some are and some aren~t (stupid thing, where~s my apostrophe: )

main journals are bigger on the 360, bore sizes, heads and manifolds intercahange.
rods will interchange, but I believe 360 rods are heavier...need clarification on that.

what parts in particular do you mean:
