Smile I've gone VALIANT.....

Gday all, Just brought my first Val after having a shed(s) full of Holdens and I am bloody well enjoying it!

I've got a AP6. White with black vynal roof, fresh 360(I built it for a customer!) Torqueflyte and Dana rear with Possitrac. Full leather interior and real nice cruiser.

Still love my Holdens but can't beat a classic val..

Haha,if I could afford a "classic ford" I'd have one of those stashed away also! Went cruisin in the val with the family last night and they loved it. She's a pretty quick old jigga also so there's a heap of fun to be had...

I'll take some pics over the weekend and put em up.

Cheers,
Redbeard

hmmm, my second most favourite Valiant first of all being my old mans CK Chrysler by Chrysler and the VH Hardtops

my bro used to have an AP6 ute, flat black, 225 and 3 speed column shift i think it was 'chewi'. its absolutely rooted now, cow c0ckies from up Tenterfield shot teh crap out of it and broke all of the glass....PRICKS
a good AP6 is hard to come by these days unfortunately

i was a holden boy all my life and still think that they are the greatest aussie cars going. But the old vals just get under your skin and once you get one you want another, and another. They all have so much potental the different shapes through the models From the oldies right up to the roundies all good.
Have fun

I was in Torana Nirvana once too. now its a 318 Ap6 with a MSD 6al 2bbl Carb and modified original air cleaner. with a Mallory electronic dizzy. and a single 2.5 inch exhaust.

When i bought it i went home rebuilt the carb, put the O2 sensor up the pipe and the computerised timing light onto it. for a state of tune.... when i replaced the standard air cleaner on i noticed that the A/R would go from 14.7 to 13 and when i removed it it would return to 14.7....
so out with the air saw and cut a slot in the rear of the cleaner so i could retain the original cleaner and look under the bonnet. when i replaced the cleaner the A/R stayed at 14.7

then i made some ladder bars from stainless rod and used 2 left and 2 right HQ tire rods. made some brackets that welded onto the top of the inside of spring hangers, then to the Diff next to the brakes. Cool. backed down the drive way and tested the way it felt.

Yes it definitely had a more aggressive pull. now instead of leaf spring bind, i could feel the suspension action as it now lifted a little under acceleration so i was happy. Then a cruise around the block or 2 to monitor the A/R under different load conditions. Nice.... then i thought ill give it a decent launch now to really test it....

Loaded it up with the standard convertor at around 1100 rpm and Dropped and mashed it. BANG exit stage right the diff center........ Next was to cut and shut a XE falcon housing and center using the original Val axial tubes, as the splines are the same ( ok a poofteenth smaller but nothing to worry about). Took all of 4 hours with a Tape measure, Drop saw and Mig Welder.
Yep with the Ignition upgrade and a decent state of tune with a advance curve that was all in by 2800rpm. this animal hauled Arse.....ok it doesn't do sub 10 second quarters, but by god with 4 blokes in the car and trailer load of bricks i still think i could do a burnout.

When we finish our supercharged 186 complete with custom roller bearing, roller camshaft. yes you read correctly. Alloy rods, and Ford pistons ( Sponsors Needed PLEASE ) . Ill put the Intercooled Twin GT28/71's that are in the cupboard onto her. With a 750 square bore and give all the peanuts with their 30 grand Nissan's the shits.
