Wink K-member

Hi

I'm new to the site and am from 'across the ditch' and have a question regarding k-members. V8 valiant k-members, are there different types i.e. with certain models and or years? Also, the other half of my query is, if they are the same then are they the same as a Yank A-body V8 k-member (say, 1968-1972 'biscuit' type mounts). I don't have a valiant one to compare to apart from photos and so was wondering if they'd fit straight in etc. Cheers!

G'day mate. welcome aboard we need more Mopar Fanatics
from i think AP6 to VG the V8 cross members were the same to my knowledge? i do know that half way thru the VG they changed the stud pattern to the Ford 114mmx5 set-up (before it was 100mmx5)
then from VH to CM they were the same as well. and it is true that the Australian valiants used the same K-Frame as the american A-Bodies

but as to ur question about whether or not the american and aussie K-Frames are interchangeable, well i don't know if Chrysler Australia modified our K-frame to suit the right hand drive set-up or if they just bolted the steering box on the right-hand side instead of the left???. and i know that i can't answer ur question about the engine mounts either.

i hope that helps a little bit

Cheers mate!

Have just been informed that the LHD steering box etc bolts to its k-member and so would be different to a right hook one for these reasons as well as the idler arm bolting to it too. Anyway, cheers for your response and have a good week!

no worries mate, if it were me i would go an after market K-Frame with
rack & Pinion steering. I think Pentastar Parts & Restorations sell em for our Valiants i'm not too sure about teh left hook mopar muscle however

go and find teh magazine Mopar Muscle, there is tons of adds for after market coil-over and torsion bar suspension packages in there if you do go looking for it it has a big black 1970 Dodge Charger with and orange stripe right down teh middle of it.

oh yeah, by the way what model is your PLYMOUTH????

Hey man

I will get them made up, I was just being lazy and letting my fingers do the 'walking'. I have a 75 Duster. I got it 2001, it came out to NZ in 81 as a slant - the Leaning Tower of Power! The guy converted to small block v8 by cutting off the 6 k-member perches and welding some more / made up ones. That worked fine for me until after a year later I pulled the 318 and put a 400 in using conversion stuff from Schumachers (Engine-swaps.com) i.e. mounts, tri-y headers etc. These conversions are for utilising existing k-member . perches etc but for some reason the big block wouldn't line up etc with their mounts (when they converted to small block, measurements / distances etc were obviously different to factory dimensions, hence not lining up when I did it). Anyway I cut them off and we made up some. Now I'm going back to small block and was just wondering etc because I have to make a few changes to the dimensions now that I'm going back to a 360 (that was what I was referring to re: laziness!). Anyway all good!

Cheers.
