hi.. looking for some thoughts on which is the better option, the car will see some strip time so do i go with the 383 stroker or 400 .plenty of people go the 350/383 but why not just start with the bigger cube 400 or is bigger not always better or is it cost factor with parts etc..cheers

As long as you get a good block a 400 is fine, just get a real good cooling system, they do run hotter being siamesed bores.
After market block is the go if you can afford it. Even a 4.125" bore and a 3.48" stroke will work good.

I have a 400 in my prem, and I love it. It makes 500 ft/lbs of torque. But finding a good 400 block these days is near on impossible. If the budget allows buy a dart lttle M block and fill it full of 400 chev parts. Otherwise a 383 stroker may be a good alternative.

I went the 383 but that was only because our car was licensed with the 350, so to the unassuming eye, its still a 350 and its all "legal"
