Looks like i will have a 305 sitting around,, so anyone know what good mods for these little things to make them go ?? as in crank rods etc. I was thing about just slapping a turbo on it and see how long it last ..

Go the turbo for sure!

Have a read of this: http://www.theturboforums.com/smf/in...opic=104577.25

There's some talk about turboing a 305 in there.

They used 305 motors in '80s and '90s Camaros.

I think it was because of the 305ci limit in the SCCA Trans Am racing series.

Some weird versions include the TBI (Throttle Body Injecton) version, this one had the fuel injected at the throttlebody. Waste of time, TBI.

305 is 3.736" bore(327,350 etc is 4.00") and 3.48" stroke with medium journal(same as 350), 307 is 3.875" bore with 3.25" stroke and small journal. 307 has never really been considered a performance motor, 305 arent to bad from what ive heard. If you want to take it out further should be easy enough to stroke, having the same crank journal as 350, though pistons could be a touch harder to track down with the odd bore. If you dont want to play with stroke just the usual sbc chev mods will apply, pretty much everything should bolt up. ill second the turbo motion tho

180 cc aftermarket vortec casting 1.94i/1.50e valves
comp cams xe268h Hydraulic cam (224/230 degrees)
performer air gap manifold
650 speed demon carb

It should go close to 350 at the fly at about 6000 before playing with stroke etc.

This combo was found in a yankee magazine so dont hammer me if it dont look right. They claim a bit more power but most magazine engine hp claims are "optimistic" to say the least.
Hope this helps.

Vortec are standard castings and are a great head seen them make 470 ft lb and 450 hp on a 400 all under 5000

DONT USE BIG VALVE HEADS.
just port the short turn radius and a 3 angle valve job. keep as best to standard port runner volumes this keeps air speed up. and promotes turbulance. = torque

but i have seen some very stout 305's especially in race boat engines.
Blokes that like good stout street engines know blokes that race boats.
they are the best engine builders for big torque engines by far.

if your not looking for torque then forget the 305 and go 302 chev or 327.

What about uping the stroke to 3.75" and giving yourself a MASSIVE 329 cubes?

youd have a 328 square bore engine. thats all about torque.

If you want performace from this combo........well..... history has shown the Japs made muli valve engines to get around this problem.

Hence why jap motors are more square bore than under square, but multi valved too to get the airflow.

Not saying it cant be done....... no...... far from it, but really its not that practical

This is a reply i had from a stroking company

"Another way you could go would be to get hold of a 350 chev block, as the
crankshaft and conrods from the 305 will fit the 350 block. You would then
only need 350 pistons to complete."

wouldnt this just be a standard 350???
