350 would be a better bet especially considering a new 350 is only $2800 short or around $4500 long.

Infact a 308 would be a better choice than a 307 especially in a torana and especially if you want to rego it. A 355 Holden V8 would be better again.

383 SBCs are also fairly cheap.

Leave the 307 alone, they are not generally used in hi-po motoring and really the only place for them is in a period resto of a car.

I personally woould be going for a stout 308.

i agree.

the bore/stroke combination of the 307 isn't the best. 3.75" bore/3.25" stroke
4 inches should really be considered the minimum starting point for bore sizing

it's hard to get the valves unshrouded with any less

well, it would probly work out cheaper just buying a reco long motor... instead of buying short and searching around for some nice heads and shit

unless ofcourse u want to give it more poke and buy some nicer heads

If you can get the 307 cheap, buy it and sell it to someone who wants a genuine HK 307 for Monaro, Prem, Brougham... They're worth good money to the right person for a resto. Other than that they're not worth building for performance, not that they couldn't make decent power, they're just not economical price wise for a performance application. 350's are the cheapest S/B to build cos they're the most common displacement..
