Default Manual transmissions !

Ok I'm gona convert the tunna to manual, seeing as I need 4th or 5th to drive the car to perth at a decent amount of revs when I put 3.7 gears in the diff.

what is the best ?

T5, Tremec, the turbo supra box, or just go a Richmond street/strip 5 speed.

it will cop a hiding at the drags so I want something good.

If you are after better times, a manual wouldnt be a good idea in a tunna really, they have enough trouble hooking up as it is..

like I said, I can't change the diff gears without having atleast 4 gears in the trans. it sits on 4000 revs all the way to perth as it is.

so manual it is.

yeah thats fair enough but if you are looking to go quicker down the strip a manual is going to give you spin city, population you

For what the Turbo Supra boxes are worth you can just about buy a Tremec or Richmond brand new and you'd be set (cheap for a good box but not cheap in overall terms). T5 would cost a lot less but make sure you get the right one and not as bulletproof so it depends on your definition of a 'hiding'

a hiding as in dropping the clutch at 3-4 thousand on the strip, depending on where my traction limit is at haha

I don't think you're going to have problems with traction - there just won't be any

Getrags are far stronger than T5s, nicer drives too but they are uncommon and expensive.

A tremec TKO is the strongest 5 speed all synchro box available - people have been fitting them to 454 powered cars for years. They are available new from Mal Wood Automotive in QLD in a choice of ratios.

I was quoted $6000 or so for a kit for my HJ sedan with aussie pattern 308 which included a new TKO, new bellhousing, new 11" clutch and new shifter.

might have to look into one of them
I have a bell housing for a t5 to suite a chev at the moment, same with a top loader one.

Oooh, dunno there maceb! I've rebuilt a few Getrags that have had a little sideways clutch movement and have blown to bits!(I have to admit the bearing arrangement is pretty crap also!) The Holden T5 isn't a bad box but a six with a bit of clutch work will sort them out also! Personally,I'd go the TKO.

Get an TKO 600 5009 it has a taller 5th gear 0.64
You will never break it
The prices are good at the moment because the aussie dollar is up.
