Timing gear drives are a bad idea for a street car so you're on the right track with the belt drive. You can't go too far wrong - wider belts make more noise, and they have to be reasonably tight to be noisy. You won't have any problems with it slipping though, although the belts are more expensive. Apparently the round toothed belts are better and louder but I haven't had any problems with the 1.5 inch square toothed belt on mine. Make sure that the belt runs true and watch your pulley sizes, some reduce the alternator speed so make sure it works well if you get one of these (mine does though and I have no issues with a decent alternator).

ok cool, basic sort of setup then... should be easy fit up then. with the crank pulley is it easy to fit a standard pulley to it as im running power steer aswell. no doubt ile have to get spacers or something for what ever sits out further.
im guessing the v belt for the power steer will sit on the inside of the crank mount gilmer pulley?

The kit should come with the pulleys ready to bolt on and go at the correct spacings. With the power steer you'll need to get a kit that caters for it - the crank pulley usually has a V belt groove in it as well, behind the toothed belt. You can't bolt on extra pulleys. I don't know of any kits that allow for other extras either so don't count on running air con or anything like that.

Normally the p/s pulley gets 'sandwiched' between the balancer & the crank pulley.
Some kits wont come with the p/s pulley so just make sure the one you buy does & it should all be sweet.

my gilmer kit has the pwr stg pulley bolted on the END
of the crank pulley. I have seen kits with the pwr stg groove
moulded into the back of the crank pulley (that is not separate)

mine looks like this....

Hey smitty it looks like you machined the front inch of your water pump pulley was that to clear the power steering belt or was it already like that, are they loud or not to bad?

...LOUD!!!

and yeah I machined it
coz I have seen on other race cars (with gilmers)
the pwr steering belt gets a whip and touchs
the water pump pulley...when you back off at high revs
(its even known to come off). With the smooth surface
the back of the pwr stg belt belt just rubs when the belt
whips (and that will help keep it on)

Hey Smitty, do what the other guys do and lay your radiator down a bit, redirects the air flow, instead of just passing through, makes for better cooling, and is simple to make up a few 30 degree brackets. You have heeaps of room to do it by the looks of it!!!! Give it a try.

yeah mate..I could and you are right, its a simple mod for a racer
but at the moment
I seem to be one of few in the club NOT having cooling issues

I have the room but higher priorities...like making it go faster
so
it can stay as is for the 'mo

definitely will take up the mod if cooling becomes an issue

cheers

hehehe, i can see it now, you'll get more power, then get brake issue's, then cooling issues, then sideways off the track issues, hehehehehe

Where you race Smitty??
