I'm in the market for a new starter motor for my 350. A quick look on ebay and theres a quite a few new ones on there for under $100. Are they any good for that price? Is fitment to a HQ-HZ an issue with gear reduction starters?

In my opinion, you get what you pay for. I,ve got a Mcleod gear reduction starter on my 400 and its never let me down, even when my engine has got real hot and is a bitch to crank over. It cost me about $270 ten years ago from vpw and its worth every cent! You may have a clearance problem with some types of headers but that would only be if the mounting block sticks out too far. I,ve got 1 3/4" 4 into 1 headers on mine and clearance isn,t an issue.
