for the want of better wording the basics behind a bass engine is it is bassically the voice coil and magnet off a sub and it vibrates like shit to give the illusion of bass .... the reasoning behind how this works is that bass notes arent actually heard but felt the way how a sub in the boot works and is still felt in the cabin its not directional to a point and you feel it rather than hear it ..

when mounted under a seat it vibrates in tune to the rest of the system and need to be hooked up as per a sub on the low pass filter of the amp and accentuates the bass coming out of the rest of the system..
giving the illusion there is infact a sub somewhere.
whilst my description prolly doesnt sound the best.
but for a smallish budget system that has no space they do work although only in the cabin you definatley wont get the ' doof doof ' outside like a sub setup but inside your prolly hard pressed to tell there isnt a sub....
me personally i wouldnt use them i will sacrifice space for subs lol had an escort with 8 10's in the back seat area and many a corty with zero boot but big sound although im getting older so current corty only got a single 15 instead of multiple 12's....lol
