i am going to have forced induction on my V6 Vr commodore and i want the bottom end to hold on for a while , i have got main bearings and new rings , is it worth it getting some pistons from acl and doing something with the rods , i dont want to spend much i just need it to last for a little while until i can get a stroker kit , please suggest anything that might help , would i need to get the engine balanced if i replace all the bearings and that ( i dont think so but just to make sure )

if your planning on giving it a fair bit of a hard time i would be thinking that pistons would be worth replacing. also too the amount of boost you plan on using will make a difference.
as for balancing i dont think going that far is neccasary providing it was in balance too begin with.

cheers

I reckon hold on to your forced induction gear for that little while longer untill there is a stroker kit sitting next to it.

For two reasons

1 - Then you'll be sure that it is strong enough
2 - If your gonna go to the trouble of pulling the whole engine down to do the rings and maybe change the pistons and the main bearings, I'll bet you wont wanna do it again when you get the stroker kit...

Do it once properly when you got the gear, then you can be rest assured and go faster at the same time

just my 2 cents tho

cheers and goodluck

i'm with banno... the ecotec motors are fairly inexpensive to replace.. bolt all the good stuff onto the stock motor and run it at conservative boost (5-6psi) and buy another motor to work on.
Get a 4.2 stroker kit from C.O.M.E, with forged rods and ACL forged pistons (get the dished ones for lower compression).
Port the heads, get stronger valve springs and get a bigger throttle body, and if you're using a turbo get the intake manifold extrude honed..

All this should get you a VERY boost friendly and hard running motor

good luck with it,

Adam

i have got myself a vortech supercharger kit , i am going to build it with an intercooler rather than the water injection, if the forged pistons from acl dont cost too much i will grab myself a set and get the rods shot peened , that should last me a while i hope , i am really interested to see what power figuers i can get out of her, i think i will need larger injectors not sure yet .
