Thumbs up What engine ??

To all,
In the past i have done up quite a few v8,s but the biggest problem that i have with that is all that power and no go and heating problems.
What i have in mind is with the LJ that i have is to run a 186 turbo. The one thing that impressed me about the japanese cars is that they seem to get enormous amounts of power and fast street times out of four cyl. There is nothing more embarrising then having a 350 chev and getting blown away by a maxima. No tracion what so ever. the times that i want to pull is low 10,s or late 9,s. Is this the right engine for the job or is there a 6 or 4 that has much better flow that i can bolt in and running gear to suit. I am up for any and all suggestion to acheive these times. cheers.hithead

go a RB30 bottom end with a RB25 top end... im not sure about a torana, but with commodores, u just use the VL cross member and its pretty much a straight swap. and there a 6cyl aswell, and with the right mods, they put out stupid amounts of power

or if u wanna go a 4 banger, then go for a SR20 out of a S14 sylvia (200sx)... i cant believe im advising to go rice :S

whatever it is going to cost is irrelevant. just want to start the project right and get all the right gear. The end result that i expect is a car that i can still drive on the street with all the comforts and still run 9,s-10,s.
I do beleive this is possible. The buggatti veyron does it although i beleive it is over rated for its price and still has problems with temperature. Just never dealt with 6,s much and more with v8,s.

as pumba said.. rb30 with a rb25 head.. castlemain rod shop do the conversion kits too put it into a torana... rb30s are great engines.. i have one that i am curently building.. my specs are

rb30et block, acl race series rebuild kit, reground stock turbo cam, hi mount manifold with a highflow T3/T4 turbo.. rx7 injects also has a 7th injector.. wolf 3d computer... im not 2 sure on the power specs but ive been told that 200kw at the wheels isnt too much 2 ask from it on highish boost..

if u look on calaisturbo.com.au there is a guy called 6boost he does very good turbo manifold kits.. from memory i think they are around 3300 with out postage..

i hope this is helpful..

yea a mate of mine has a VLT with 329HP (or 320 something lol) and all he has is custom plenum, bigger turbo (i think its a T3/4 hybrid), front mount cooler and ECU. no internals done to it at all. and its pushin over 320hp at the wheels.

the RB30's are a great motor. theres plenty of easy and cheap mods u can do to them and with the reight mods, they produce stupid amounts of power ... i think thats one of the reasons y ive had more VL's then the rest of my cars put together lol

Just an idea and its something I had planned to do to my VL a few years ago. It probably won't get you the times you're chasing, but I've always wanted to see a super6 commodore motor into an early girl. They have a fairly good bottom end and in VS/VT's they have got them running 12s, so in an LJ probably 11s. They are a great torquey motor and with the right mods, can upset quite a few cars.........and its different too.

Look at Charg6, managed to run a 11.48 with a VN. Should run 10s in a torrie. There was some sigma with a L67 transplant on NOS (unopened) that ran 10s.

hey i never thought of the super6 motor... thats good thinkin lol. the ecotecs are a great motor, and the supercharged ones are even better. there a standard commodore engine, so parts are very east to come across, and theres a lot of great mods u can do to them... incluiding 4.2Ltr strocker kit from C.O.M.E racing

What about a Toyota 1jz-gte or if you can afford it go a 2jz-gte! With the right bolt ons I believe they will make enough power to run the times you are chasing
