Default X2 carbies for my Prem 186

hey guys,
bought an X2 manifold and carbs little while ago.starting to get around to putting them on.just want to know if these BXV2 ones are ok for the 186.coz i know there were quite a few different X2 carbs.all ive got is the manifold and strombergs.no linkages or anything else.what exactly else do i need to put them on?at the moment ive got the 350Holley on it. .

matt can you put a photo up of what've got lined up as though they're on the manifold because they need joiners to link the butterfly shafts together to start with from there there's not a lot of other stuff but would help to see exactly what you've got

i've been trying to nut out how to explain what you need but without a lot of success so over the next few days i'll draw up 2 ways of doing it then scan it in basically you need to open the butterflis at the same time but be able to ajust them individualy to balance the 2 carbs at idle

you'll should only need the one excelorator pump & if you're getting a proper kit it should come with all the bits to link the carbs together i was going to draw something up because i didn't thik you'd be able to once you have the kit mount the two carbs on the manifold & with a bit of thought you should be able to work out how it goes together if you have a problem go as far as you can & then put up some more photos when you mount them the carb on the of the 2 photos goes on the left bowel to front of car the other 1 goes bowel to rear of car then your linkages are in the middle from there i'm not sure till you have the kit it's a long time since i worked on this type of set up but it's slowly coming back lol

i'll try again the carby you took the photo of on its own goes on the front or left side of manifold as it sits in the photo the bowel goes to the left or front of yhr car the carby you were still cleaning goes to the right or rear of car this places the throttle actuators in the middle of the 2 carbs have i explained it better this time if i have sit them on the manifold you should then have the fuel inlets facing the motor is this right

haha yep got it this time.the linkage kit doesnt have much in it.just the rod that goes straight through the middle connecting the butterflies.ive figured it mostly out now.but because ive got cable accelerator and not linkage i now have to think of a way for the cable to pull the rod sideways as the carbs cant be worked like the holley.im also confused about the vacuum to the carby and the little outlets on the manifold.had a look at the "BXV-2" markings on oldholden.com and it says they were for 173 and 202's difference being the jets.its starting to be real confusing!

the vac holes you should only need one to your dist the others need to be blanked off.For excelorator bracket bend a piece of flat plate to bolt to a manifold bolt & extend over the rocker cover as far as is need so cable ends up between carbs you may need to modify were it hooks to carb to have it actuat the correct way

The proper X2 carbs actually came off a 138 not a 173. the 173 are too big and will need to be jetted accordingly. You will get the car runnign nicer in teh upper end and the carbs you have should work well but the originalls where a smaller model. I will pull mine from the shed and take pics.

Cheers

get the car running fist then change the jets so the plugs are a light tan colour depending on what the carbs came off as to how the jets are now

Agree with Oldman, get the thing runnign then play. At present you are dealing with unknown carbs and so just changing jets will not help you as you will still be in unknown territory. Would be of benefit to know what the jets are in it at present and make sure they are the same. from there you will be able to know what number jet you will require to get it to be lean or rich..

Cheers

Gday matts355. I have this manifold/carb setup on an EH and it runs perfect. I have got the smallest throat/venturi size carbs i could find, fitted adjustable main jets, and set the float levels a bit lower to what you would normaly. The linkage between carbs is critical . This is where you adjust ballance and idle speed, so get quality linkages(you will be allways fiddling with em). I would hook up the factory throttle linkage and modify to suit. Bend up a length of pipe, fit flare nuts, and braze join so you dont have any bodgy looking hose and clamps. Dont forget to hook up the water heated manifold! I am not too sure about the silver paint ?
