Default Reverse lights always on??

Hey people... My beast of a HZ is almost ready for rego (after a few thousands dollars) but I have one more thing to do before it will pass...
The mechanic advised me to go to an autoelectrician but I can't really afford it now. hithead

Anyhow, the situation is.... My reverse lights stay on. No matter what gear I'm in or anything they are permanently on.

I was wondering if this is a common problem and if there are any way I can fix it. I have seen a heap of the older holdens with the reverse lights on while driving so I am guessing mine is not a "one of a kind" issue...

Help would be appreciated!

check the reverse switch on the gear selector. If its a floor shift, its under the centre console. Column shift its on the steering column down under the dash. (I think, someone correct me if im wrong)

Yep , the reverse switch on a column shift is on the very bottom of the column just before it goes through the firewall (on the top side of the column). If your hz is floor shift manual, the switch is on the side of the gearbox (aussie 4 speed).

i had the same problem oneday, and what it was, was i converted my car from column auto to manual floor shift and the column slipped to the reverse position ( i left the auto column in the car) and turned the reverse lights on, so i spun it to nuetral and put a little screw in to stop it turning.

so if yours was once auto, i'd check this out, or it could just be a short somewhere.

Well - the column neutral switch was rooted... Ordered a new one and it will hopefully be in in the next few days...
